KAMANDIRECT.com sells the Stafford Manufacturing line of 3-9/16" Bore, 7/8" Width, 5" OD two piece shaft collars that use 3/8"-24 bolts. The collars are available in the following materials and for the following prices: Steel (#8L309) $75.06 Aluminum (#8A309) $84.23 Stainless (#8S309) $150.13 All prices exclude shipping. Notice that the manufacturer's part number for the Aluminum (#8A309) is the exact same part number used in the group buy last year from Air & Power Transmission Incorporated ( see post http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... 91&start=0 ), so it would seem that theses will fit (at least on the gassers). For CRDs, it looks like Bugnout has found the best sollution: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=26526 |

I believe they are for a collar, which is two pieces with the connecting bolts. I don't know of anyone who has installed two, but there maybe room to fit two. Kinda like suspenders and a belt |

No proof, but I've yet to hear of someone, with a collar installed, grenading thier diff. I witnessed a grenading, and don't believe that the KJ was being abused in a way that it shouldn't be. Just a design flaw we have to deal with. The KK seems to have added material around the input shaft area. Thats the suspect area that the diff collar is supposed to strengthen. |

Your welcome. I was tired of having to dig through multiple sources of information as well, that's why I did the research and pulled it all together. |

They are for reinforcement of the area that generally breaks, which should lessen your chances of breakage at least to some degree. In about a year and a half now, no one has blown a housing yet that's using one. Time will tell, but for now it's the best solution we have, short of a steel SFA housing. |

Thanks for that KJ04, seems strange that a collar like that can do anything. The reason I say that is it's covering an already built part. So if that part is going to break all your doing is stopping parts from falling off, wouldn't it still fracture as it would in the first place. I'm not nocking it, just querying it. It's like your making the wall of the part thicker, so it can take more pressure, but how can you be sure it's been a success. Has anyone removed theres to check that there has been no damage or evidence of stress & fractures? Come to think of it I should check mine |

Come to think of it I should check mine the collar distributes the load all the way around the input shaft so it is less likely to break. that's why a snug fit is very important. |

it helps stop the shaft from flexing under heavier loads which would make it less likely to crack. |

Ahh, OK. So do you know if they sell them in any auto shop? Perhaps I can ask a local auto shop about it, sounds like good insurance. CD |
