Post subject:  I'm bored....need mods to do.....help

Already did wheels and tires, lift, EVIC, tint, iPod, pinchwelds, Hella's, clear corners, tinted tails, roof rack, Husky floor mats, GPS, and a couple other little bits.

Someone give me something to do. Can't afford anything major right now, but ALL ideas are welcome.

I realized that if I don't have a goal with this thing, I will sell it. I have done that in the past....get a vehicle exactly the way I want it then I lose all interest in it! I just paid her off, so I need ideas.

Just wheel it.

Use its new functions.

Smaller projects you didn't mention:

Sliders
Better armor underneath
Interior improvement (carpet, steering wheel)

Major projects to begin that will keep you really busy:

Convertible KJ
Exo-cage
Hood scoops
interior hot tub
Rear oil guns
Front rocket/machine guns
Passenger ejection seating
Vibrating seats
Modify the air bag to a blow up doll (*Warning* Do Not Use While Driving)
HUD on the windshield
Propeller shaft and water tight engine compartment and interior
Land mine dispenser
Full exterior body graphic
Nightvision
SFA

Sounds like you need to get out and go wheeling. I swear half the fun of owning a Jeep is working on it and building it up but the other half is getting out and wheeling it in new places you haven't been before.

Oh yes, you’ve got a long ways to go yet. Front and Rear bumper, dual remote by-pass filter, roof basket, rock rails, winch, factory renegade light bar, air intake, Amsoil in the front diff, rear diff, engine, transmission, transfer case. Install a Shift Kit, lockers, skid plates, and the list never stops. If you really need help, go ask tjkj2002, I think he has done more modifications than anyone I know. Although, KYliberty is in a close second place. :D

i'd say your kj looks sweet right now, but i know some front and rear bumpers would make it look killer. also the renny lightbar is a good idea too. i have mine (with package) and freakin love it... however, don't know how you feel about drilling a bunch of holes in your roof!?!

Go wheel it, break it, then spend more money and time fixing it. That's what most of us do!

All good ideas....I think I will start out with the water tight shell and outboard.

I want a new front bumper, but man that's expensive. I hesitate to add weight....it is struggling to do 70, and won't do 75 except for downhill. The 3.7 is really hit hard with bigger tires, lift, and roof basket.

Man I wish this thing had a V8.

you could extend your breathers and add a electric fan... just incase you get in high water. speaking of that.. when i was in water and mud i happened to ruin my horn.. so i'm going to install some of these bad boys over x-mas break (another idea for you)

From the sounds of things, you need to do a gear swap. Replace the 3.55's you have now with 3.73's to be close to stock with the bigger tires, or 4.10's for better power at lower speeds. I'm not sure if the 5 speed has torque management or not. If it does, you'll want an agressive B&G flash with the torque management deleted.

did I read right, you have a hard time getting your rig to go 70-75 mph??? what's wrong? what is it about the your KJ that makes it so??? I have larger tires, roof basket, and such and cruise at 70-75 all the time without ever going up over 2100-2200 rpms. I've hit 90 in a split second passing big rigs on the highway to get around them...never a hesitation, lag or anything...it just gets up and goes like mad. I'm curious what is holding your rig's acceleration and top speeds back? BTW, what is the top speed our KJs can reach...not that I would ever try to hit that...but I know I could get over 100 in a hurry based on needing to get it around someone quick like I said above...where does it top out?

going downhill I can hit 90....but I have a roof basket, heavy tires, etc, and it just cant seem to get to 70 very quickly. I imagine if I drop to third gear maybe, but I usually travel on the interstate at fifth gear, or maybe 4th to get it back up to 65-70 before I upshift.

I dont know whats wrong...low end feels pretty good, but above 65 i press the gas and it just doesnt seem to have any ooooomph.

It sounds like you just need to downshift. I have the same problem in my with my auto trans. But now I’ve gotten used to it and figure it’s probably saving me gas. When I’m doing 65 and start going uphill I’ll keep pressing the gas pedal further and further down and it will let me maintain (sort of) my speed until it drops down out of overdrive or even another gear.

For example if I’m going 65 I think my RPM’s are right around 2,000 or 2,100 but not over 21. If I keep my foot steady and do not move it my speed will drop all the way to 55 and sometime 50 before the jeep will downshift. If I press more gas it will downshift and then my RPM’s are closer to 3,000 and sometime trying to maintain 65 with people in the car it will jump to 3,500 – at that point I back off the gas b/c I don’t like to run over 3,000 rpms for a long time under that much strain.

Not to say I don’t think the Jeep can handle it, I just want her to last a long time.

And to answer the original post here’s what I would do if I had the time

Extend all breather tubes
Fabricate some sliders
Fabricate full body skid plates (going across the entire Jeep) out of 3/8” steel with bead rolls.
Upgrade head lights (bulbs)
Upgrade fog lights
Modify rear wiper to pause longer between wipes

Fabricate/Install a 2nd aux or cigarette lighter mount
Fabricate a tray on top of dash like the new liberty has (someone please do this for me!)

Those are the one I can think of for now that are reasonably priced compared to other wish lists (I guess the skids could add up though.)

Good luck and yea, go out and use it!

"Fabricate/Install a 2nd aux or cigarette lighter mount "

I want to hardwire my GPS and my inverter....what would be the best way to do this? They both have cigarette lighter adapters....I was thinking about hardwiring a dual lighter adapter and then hiding it behind the radio bezel, but this seems ghetto....
