I have a 2005 Liberty Sport CRD, with the grey cloth seats, and they seem to stain very easily. Heck just a drop of water and its stained. My seats are starting to look pretty bad. I paid for the scotch guard at the dealer so I assumed it would not stain that easily. Is this some kind of defect? Should I complain to the dealer? Thanks |

If your interior is a lighter color, you will have a harder time keeping it clean. The dealer might be able to help you remove the stains, but I doubt that they will be willing to do it for free. I'm not saying they won't, but I wouldn't be suprised if they charged you for labor or something. Tips for keeping them clean: 1) always have napkins or towels in the car to soak up liquids 2) buy a small shop vac / interior carpet cleaner and a brush (you can use those 3 things to clean your interior on your own) 3) buy seat covers, although I am not a fan, they are effective |

Thanks 1. You may have been screwed (as in, they didn't scotchguard the interior). 2. See what happens when your too cheap to buy leather. (just kidding). 3. Actually, there are quality custom fit seat covers avail for the KJ. 4. Stop eating fast food in your KJ. Most auto parts stores carry good interior cleaners. Do it yourself. But remember to test the cleaner on a small spot of the seat which won't be noticed if the cleaner stains. |

Ok, since i'm a detailer at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership, I'm gonna let y'all in on a little secret. WE DON'T ACTUALLY SCOTCHGUARD ANYTHING! and seriously, if you're the same kinda guy that wants his disgusting looking greasy seats/carpets cleaned every time you bring your rig in for servicing, i'll paypal $5 to the first guy that kicks you in the rump seriously, though, it's easy to keep your interior clean...it's just like the rest of your rig. keep it up (cleaning the interior up once a week is just like changing the oil-prevents problems later on), and it's less difficult/expensive to get it ALL done/fixed later. the stuff we use for cleaning interiors is made by cougar chemical, just called "heavy duty interior cleaner". it doens't stain any interior i've used it on (from my boss's BMW, to my beater Thunderbird, to my mom's Sequoia, to my g/f's sunfire, to my Liberty, and just about everything in between) also, get a soft bristled brush for cleaning up, and a spray bottle to apply the cleaner, and get a small bowl of water to wet the brush before you start scrubbing. |

WE DON'T ACTUALLY SCOTCHGUARD ANYTHING! So you are saying that if people paid extra for the scotchguard when they bought their DCX vehicle, they got screwed??? BTW...I didnt pay for it...just wonderin... |

I do not have any stains on my interior as of yet and I am thankful I have leather after reading your posts. I would be really upset if my interior stained with just plain water as easily as what you all have stated. The dealership I purchased my new KJ at recommended getting what they called a 3 way done, which I paid for and had done. That is suppose to protect against stains, fading, wear etc. and comes with a warranty that states that. So I would think if any of you had this treatment done. The dealership should take care of this problem. Even if you did not pay extra for the protection I feel the Dealer should take care of the problem if they are made aware of it. I will keep an eye on this thread to see what comes of it. Good luck to all. |

pretty much, yeah. when delivered to the dealership, a new vehicle goes through PDI (post-delivery inspection) both through service (for the mechanical end), and then our detail "shop" (for the aesthetic end). that's when we apply our dealership sticker, wash the vehicle, and remove some of the shipping labels/protective covers. the $595 my dealer charges for it is pretty much to guarantee they make at least $595. our salesmen don't know about us NOT doing it, and more than likely other salesmen don't either, so don't blame them-it's all about the service/sales managers. i'm glad i have a dark interior:) *EDIT* i'm not saying ALL DC dealers are like that...just mine. our managers are REAL pieces of work... hence me in the search for another job, lol |

Guys, the problem isn't with him not trying to keep his seats tidy, or keeping napkins in the car, or the dealers scotch guard... It's the fact that the 2005 Liberty (And Grand Cherokee, for that matter) have the worst upholstry I've seen. They will spot and stain with only water on them, as he/she pointed out. I don't think we (as an ownership group) have had enough contact with the dealer yet for it to go anywhere. But next service (approx 1500 miles away) I'm gonna find out what they say. |

You are totally right about that.... DaimlerChrysler uses the cheapest supplier with the cheapest parts / materials / processes to produce their vehicles to keep the cost's down on their end and then they pass on the poor quality products to the consumer for a profit... Sorry for the rant, my Jeep is pissing me off today (it took more money out of the wallet and it's not even a mod) |

I haven't had any problem with stains on my seats and believe me they have been tortured. They have been exposed to mud, dogs, soda, my little brother & sister, and my mom (who stained the carpet). As for the seats if I do spill something while I am out then I soak up as much as I can and that is usually the last I see of it. |

ive had the same problem with my seats, and i may have originally posted the other thread but i didnt look, but yeah mine are all spotted from the rain and i wonder if i could take this up to a regional manager or striaght to jeep because in all honestly im no happy with that, if i use a stain remover vacum they go away, but im a college kid and have moved away from home and dont feel like dropping 70 bucks on a wet vac, and im buying the khaki Liberty seat covers off of ebay ASAP, everytime i see those seats it makes me want them more.i will agree these seats need to be made out of a different material or something.......i dont believe in scotchgaurd just because i always thought it was a ripoff.... |

Our KJ was only 3 months old when a crayon from some restaurant decided to melt on the drivers seat. (wifes car). I had to take the seat apart to remove the cover, despite all the recommended methods by CRAyola, stain is forever. Any way, I think the water stains because it pushes the dust on the fabric via surface tension because the water stains will change depending on how much water is spilled. My solution is to just clean with alot of water and suck it out with my bissel carpet cleaning machine. Our first trip in 03 was to moab, that red dust ended up everywhere, add water and you have a stain. If the fabric was velour like many cars you wouldn' t see water staining as easy, but the word JEEP and velour don't go together well. (scary thought) |

What about covering them with the neoprene seat covers? Are there any out there that don't cost an arm and a leg? |

The day I bought mine, I went out and bought a few bottles of actual Scotch Guard and spent the day doing it myself. I do it for every vehicle I own. It seems to help quite a bit. I try and do it when the weather is really warm so it "bakes" the fabric with the spray. |

I have the neoprene covers and they are awesome. They fit like a glove(a really tight glove that is a pain in the arse to get on). They don't let anything get to your seats and they clean up so so easy. My six year old can't do anything to mess em up...kid tested, daddy approved. Oh yeah, they also have a nice subtle Jeep logo on the front seat covers. Recommended if you are a mess like me. |
