How do I check bearings? Curious

Ideas?

Bad bearings will usually make a noise at low speeds. The noise will change as you turn.

could also be a stuck caliper on said front wheel

Interesting....I haven't had a brake check lately...probably need to change them out.

Bearings will make noise if they are worn. Beside aero dynamics there is just more drivetrain parts along with the the drivetrain being heavier and larger, becauese it is a 4wd vehicle. Plus I'm sure the General Grabber A/T tires you have also have alot more rolling resistance than the tires on your audi.

No way you can compare the rolling resistance of those two, different size, weight, 4wheel -vs- 2 wheel etc. Even up on jack stands you have a lot more things moving than on an Audi. Are you sure youre not just looking for something that is not even a problem? Seems a lot of people think they hear, feel, sense there is a problem when its only moving parts on a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Not saying anything about people on here just from prior experience.
As far as changing out the brakes are they worn out? How many miles do you have on them? Just wondering as I have 94500 on my KJ now and all original brakes yet and still have a good bit of wear, they will make it to 100,000 easy! Of course I am very easy on brakes, dont like to use them!

I am the first to admit that I am a bit of a hypochondriac when it comes to vehicles.....keeps me on top of them and in tip top shape.

BTW the Audi is all wheel drive, full time. I would think it always had more rolling resistance, if you dont consider tires.

Tires are a big difference, Since I went to the bfg ko's a few weeks ago I've noticed where I once coasted easy down some hills I now have to give some gas where I coasted before..

me too. I have my grabbers inflated to 45 psi, I would think a hard tire like that would let it coast really well. I know the stockers would let me coast on just about any kind of decline, but just like you I am giving gas now where I never had to before.

My grabbers wouldnt coast at all when I had them. Killed the mpg too.

Those tires have a very high rolling resistance. They have a soft tread.

If you are talking about a front wheel bearing one way to check is to find a parking lot and go to the far end away from everybody. Make some tight turns at maby 5 mph with the windows down and listen. Go left and right. When you turn like that it puts more load on the bearings and if there is a bad one it will make more noise while you are making the turn and less as you streighten out. That's the best I can explain it.
