so while taking off the air darn... OEM plastic guards, on my tail lights, i have chips all around my tail lights from the guard plastic adhesion with the tail light. i used "goo off" to take them off, and they basically popped off, but it has small chips and soem of the plastic from the guards on there...

should i live with it, get new ones on e-bay (kinda expensive), or try and use sandpaper and sand them down...?
thanks all!

Are you sayin that the taillights actually have some small chips and bits of plastic on em or the paint? Just live with it if its the taillights...if its the paint then its your decision but Id prolly just let it alone too...

sand down with 600 grit sandpaper untill chips are no more, then sand with 1000 grit, 1500 grit, and finish with 2000. then take a fine plastic polish on a soft high speed buffer wheel and put the shine back in it.....here is a turn signal from my 300zx I did a while back after it fell out and dragged on the pavement:

Then I had to polish the other to match:

Its a great way to make old plastic lenses look new.

That's impressive! Can this procedure be used on the headlight cover plastic? How do they come off anyhow? Anybody take theirs off yet?

headlights are usually made of something stronger and harder, like lexan(polycarbonate), which is not nearly as easy to polish.

what you can do with things like lexan is wetsand like the above, then spray with clear coat, that gives them a new clear glassy finish, though I have never personally tried that, only seen companies that specialize in it.
