| Post subject: | Salvage Yard Trip? ALTERNATOR Help |
Anybody gonna hit a local salvage yard in their area anytime soon? FOUND a plug, please read below I need a SMALL part and would like to see if it is out there somewhere. EDIT: Well as it turns out... I checked the wiring diagrahm for the 07 and 06 KJ's coming out of the alternators. There seams to be a vast difference. Troy, if you can chime in on this i would greatly apprieciate it. The 06 has a 2 wire plug. One wire, the 18 guage black one is a ground. the other, the dark green/brown 16 guage wire is the "Gen Filed Control" wire. I am assuming that this is the wire that tells the generator/alternator to start charging from the Powertrain Control Module. The 07 also has a two wire plug. A 16 guage Brown and Green wire that is the "Gen Field Control" wire same as above. The second wire is a 22 guage light blue wire that is labled the "Gen Sense" lead. WTF is a Gen Sense? This post was to ask for somebody to grab a plug out of a 2005 or 2006 junker so I could splice it into my 07 wiring harness. I am concerned as to the safety of this move. Does anybody have anything to add to this. I have the mean green 202 amp alt and i would love to use it. but i do not want to cook anything. Is it safe to do this splice? The chrysler 160 amp alt is about the same price as the mean green but i give up over 40 amps. Troy or Tom or anybody, HELP!!!! |

Hey call off the dogs! Found what I needed. As some have read, I am trying to install a Mean Green High Amp Alt on my 2007 KJ. Well it seams that chrysler in the infinite wisdom decided to change the plug for their 3.7L gasser engine alternator/generators. They went through 2006 with one plug and just as they plan to mothball the KJ they change plugs.
Unfortunately Mean Green did not get the memo. SO I had to try to track down a 2006 or earlier gasser and confiscate the plug. Found a 2005 Sport and scarfed the plug for just a couple of bucks. Now I have to splice it on my harness and pray I don't fry anything. Thanks all for the potential help. Hope this is helpful to some other poor 07 model owners. |
