Is it normal for under hard acceleration for there to be a bit of a pause between the shifts? under normal driving its fine only if i give it the lead foot does it do it. Is this normal? |

There has always been a small amount of delay in my Jeep under passing conditions but I think there is more of a delay when I accelerate with light pedal pressure. Either way, seems like it would be normal to me [granted you've kept up on your maintainence] |

Mine was doing that too just last week. I have an 03 with 108,852 on it and I had the trans lube replaced and purged. now it runs so smooth. |

Is this normal? Welcome to the world of mushy and soft shifting auto's,people didn't like the hard fast shifting so they made the shifts softer. That equals slipping the clutches, building up heat, and generally shorting the life of a auto tranny. The older auto's would live foreever but it felt like the drivetrain feel out everytime they shifted, but better for the tranny.
I wouldn't recommend it,not known what will happen to the tranny, but I would add about 1-2 qts of Ford's type "F" tranny fluid to the newer Ford trannies and GM trannies to make the shifting quiker and faster. |

does the shift kits help any with this? now that i know this is normal i do feel better. Its done it since i bought it and it had its full tune up and tranny service only few months ago which made it shift smoother under normal driving condition but still the same pause under hard acceleration |

Since you have an '04, you should have a 42RLE. TransGo makes a shift correction kit for it. The kit is cheap, but the labor isn't. It will make the transmission shift crisper and faster. It will also help with it searching for the right gear, and it will make your transmission last longer. To fix it completely, it gets kind of expensive. You'll want an APS torque converter and a B&G flash to go with the shift kit. |

I do have the shift kit and I can verify that it does shorten the shifts. When accelerating hard, there is less delay and a more firm shift. A very cheap kit, but the labor cost me $140 bones to have it done. I figured that the performance improvement and the extended life of the trany was worth it. |
