| Post subject: | Towing a Chevy Blazer |
Would it be a safe to tow a Chevy Blazer with some rope for about 5 miles? I only have tow hooks by the way. |

Define safe. if the Blazer's running and the guy's in it to steer and brake, it should be ok as long as you go S L O W...but otherwise, it'd be like $30-50 to have it towed depending on what your local companies charge, so if it's worth towing, it's worth paying the tow truck. |

The transmission in the Blazer is shot. Will only go in reverse. |

So drive it backwards;) I don't see why the engine can't be running when you do it, then. Just use a real tow strap and make sure you trust the guy in the Blazer. |

30 foot tow strap , nothing with hooks on it, Blazer running in neutral with a driver that is not an idiot and will be careful and drive slowly basically what Tbirdjunkie said |

I think he's going with the tow truck now. $120 for just 5 miles ! We would have to buy a tow strap since I've been too cheap to buy one so far. Plus the tow hook on the Libery is offset to the side, so that would probably make it tougher I would think. Plus the Blazer weighs quite a bit. Probably safer with the tow truck anyways, so we'll avoid making a bad situation worse. |

Probably a good move then. |

Minus the offset tow hook, it would've been a GREAT opportunity to go out and buy a strap. The hook would've made it difficult though. |

Good decision on the tow truck. But had you needed to buy a tow strap someone sells a tow rope called Expeditionware Kinetic Yanker Rope (you'll have to scroll down a bit.) https://www.expeditionexchange.com/straps/ It has 30% elasticity and it's rated for 12,000 lbs and might be a little better for towing someone a short distance. It's not cheap at all ($120) and personally, I think a regular nylon tow strap is better from most "stuck" needs but I figured I'd give you and everyone else a heads up that it's out there. I have their Expedition Recovery Strap (the orange one) and while I haven't used it yet, it's very sturdy, the loops have thick leather protection that runs about a 1' long after the loop and another sliding leather strap in the middle for trees or doubling up the strap onto another hook. |

I wouldnt want to do it using only tow hooks, but I have towed my Camaro 11 miles with my Jeep but I had it tied to my hitch and had the Camaro in N and we just went slow it was safe and easy |

the leather or cordovan (sp?) sleeve makes it nice if you need to tug on anyone with a metal bumper etc or where it may rub on a frame, as it will not rub through your strap, its a nice addition, shows a quality strap. |
