| Post subject: | tie rod?? |
ok so i was wanting to know if one of my tie rods were bad if it would make noise?? how can i check it?? why im asking is when i hit bad spots in the road (not large bumps like speed bumps) i get i clunking noise. ive checked all bolts and torque them down to spec. it feels like the wheel wobbles from left to right. i just had my lower ball joints replaced also. im out of warrantee and dont have a ton of extra cash so taking it to jeep is out of the question. can some one help me please? i would really appreciate it very much. thank u |

For starters check the lug nuts. You just got the tires changed last week right? |

Did you get an alignment done after the lift etc. If so they should of checked the tie rods and if one was loose then they would not of been able to do a proper alignment. One way is to jack it up and have someone wiggle the tire back and forth slowly while you lay under the KJ and feel the tie rod ends moving, you can tell if they are loose or not, either by feel or by seeing it move, sometimes if loose enough you can even see it move Tom |

I am also hearing a clunking noise but have replaced both upper and lower ball joints, and tie rod ends. So I know it's not them. I think my bushings on the shockmount to the steering knukle is shot. I can see lots of cracks in the rubber. Wish I would have addressed this problem when I redid the rest of the front end and had it all apart. |

I got clunking in the front when I didn't tighten upper strut plate bolt all the way. The strut was clunking inside the spring when I went over any size bump or pot hole. You would have to take everything apart to look at it so thats prob the last thing I would try before spending money. |

Check your front wheel bearing assemblies. They should have 4 small bolts visible from inside the wheel. I had to replace the ones on my 2002 Jeep Liberty KJ (they are two different part numbers based on ABS or Non-ABS) |
