I've actually noticed that the KJ does "fishtail" without warning more then any other jeep or vehicle ive ever owned. I'm not saying the KJ is bad or anything just saying that those "stories" are probablly not all due to poor driving abilities. Ive had it just kick sideways twice since ive owned it and its not due to lack of poor tires either(or driving ability!). Ive also had a coworker that had it happen to him and ended up rolling 3 times(but keep in mind this is in northern canada where the road conditions are Ice packed or black ice). I'm sure there are other vehicles with the same problem but you will hear more about the KJ since it was the best selling suv and everyone owns one). My .02 cents Josh |

My KJ will fishtail in snow and ice storms, but when the roads are JUST STARTING to get covered. After roads have about an inch of snow\ice the KJ does just fine. Alot of people just do not know how to drive and handel their Jeep's SUV's and 4x4's. They get into these things and drive foward and as fast as they can. Well experience drivers such as our selves, we can control and handel our Jeep's. That is because we do use our Jeep's on and off road and as we play around we are actually learning how the KJ reacts in certin situations and terrain. I guess this is why no one reads an articl on the net or local papers that a L.O.S.T KJ Member has driven his jeep off the road and rolled it 37 times and then came to a rest upside down. and driver yelling about the jeep liberty drive and handels like garbage. This is my reaction to other people pointing the blame of their ignorance for understanding and knowing how to drive ANY thing (notice I did not include the Jeep as an suv.) |

Josh I could agree to a point the rear wheel drive does make it more susceptible to fishtailing, FWD usually have far fewer incidents. Some Good points though. |

Fishtailing is due to bad tires that Jeep uses and the fact that youre driving a short yet tall Jeep. Learn how to drive. The guy said two libertys and a Grand Cherokee were sitting there then started talking about a Cheroke? Where it come from. Guy needs to get his story straight, or understand those are two totally different Jeeps. In short, who cares what that guy saw? A Jeep is a Jeep and its people like that that forced Jeep to put ESP on everything they make and lower the liberty. Ive only spun my liberty around once and it was b/c the road was slick(Had just started raining), I still had the crappy stock Goodyears(Will never own another), I have a locker, but most importantly I was trying to get sideways in a place I shouldnt have been. |

Most were making evasive moves or got hit by someone...there were contributing factors including rain and speed in others. We have had a few members here have bad accidents including rollovers...and the uniframe/body held up well in the accidents...they are SUVs afterall |

yeah notice that most (none that i read) were hurt!!! that says something right there. heck i cant get my KJ to break loose now if i tried. the stock tires are horrible! also if u learn what to do in that type of situation a roll over can be prevented. when u are sideways in a tall, high roll center KJ and u hit the breaks and the tires catch grip yeah it is going to flip. sometimes its best to give it more gas or slowly let off the gas to keep it spinning and turn into it and stay in control. i took my wife to a parking lot and tought her what to do and let her see how it felt so she would not panic in that type of situation. its like a firearm if u arent use to it u will panic in an emergency and can get urself killed. thats just how i feel about it. |

x2 This is rediculous! I would love for any one of these people to speak with us about their scenarios. Oh, and the comment, "just wait till these (Commander) get on the road." That was a nice one as well. |

yeah.... im not really going to get into this. I blame it all on driver error. Its a jeep not a lambo...... drive it like its ment to be driven. |

This enrages me. I drive my Jeep like a Ferrari, and it flipped! im so mad, it's unsafe!! I remember something in my Isuzu Trooper's owner's manual...it said something to the effect of "This is an off road vehicle. Do not drive this vehicle like a sports car, just as you would not take a sports car off road" |

This sounds more and more like those Rhodes Scholars that sued McDonald's when they spilled hot coffee on their lap only to blame Micky D's for there inability to be responsible for their own actions. If you don't know how to drive stay off the roads. The same thing happened last year here in Denver. Shortly before Christmas we got hit with a horendus blizzard, the News told all to stay off the roads unless it was an emergency. I was working as a Grocery Checker and they all ran out to the grocery , like sharks on a feeding frenzy. Their were 4 accidents in our parking lot alone because these brain trusts had to go shopping that very moment |

ive had it fishtail twice in snow in 2wd but nothing major. ive never rolled it even when i was doing 55 and hit by a grand am doing 65 on the highway. never came CLOSE to rolling it. Sounds like those guys are the worst drivers ever. |

Fact: Vehicles that are higher up than a ferrari are going to be more prone to roll over. Fact: In 2wd drive in wet or icy conditions any rear wheel drive vehicle will fishtail, kj has a short wheelbase so will suffer more. Fact: Crappy or worn tyres are not going to help. Solution: Kj's are not sports cars so dont drive them like they are.If it's wet or icy select 4wd and drive at a speed suitable for the prevailing conditions taking into account your own skill and handling characteristics of the vehicle, ditch the stock tyres and make sure the ones that are fitted are in good roadworthy condition.Oh and 4wd doesn't =invincible. |

Boy, how did this article from July 2005 resurface? Anyway, my ’05 KJ is tail-happy even with SR-As and an LSD rear end. My wife won’t drive it in the rain. When I do, I slip it into 4x4 any time I take a sharp corner or have to accelerate quickly. I won’t get SR-As again, although they’ve given me 45K miles and look to have enough tread for another 15K or more. |

Bfore i start, note that i am still stock, that is, no lift. i used the goodyears till they were done, oh, about 65-70 k miles. replaced them with big-o's similar tire. they aint no dedicated off-roader, but i got no complaint for what they are. never had any of those things happen. i aint the best driver in the world, but do practice due care in relation to the vehicle i'm in at the time. when off road, i throw all those rules out the window!!! how rough i treat the lib/rene depends on how well/poorly my old wagon is running at the time - if it [the old wagon] is runnin good, i drive it [the lib/rene] like i stoled it! once i lift a bit, i plan for a bit of a 'learning curve' in relation to roll issues, but otherwise, i'm very happy. and this, coming from an old grand wagoneer man! i've even taken my kids [12 & 14 y/o girls] out to the 40 acre woods and open field to practice what they call "woo turns'. you know, build up a little speed, and whip the wheel hard and fast, so as to 'spin out' and slide. we've done this in all different conditions from bone dry and hard ground, to greasy black indiana farm-land goop, to flat ice, or moderately deep snow. never even close to a rollover! my buddies say i treat it like i want it to roll, spin, fishtail, and all the other complaints mentioned here. they used to laugh at liberty's. no more! i vote with the 'they just don't know what they are doing" group. |

I cannot get mine to fish tail much at all. ESP kicks in and gets me strait. (I was purposely trying to donut in the snow a couple of days ago, and esp kicked in and kept me from it.) Personally, I love the esp system, plus you can turn it off... |

If the car was turning left, I can promise you that it was NOT going 5mph!!! Take your foot off the brake and lightly tap your accelerator. Now watch how fast you are going. I promise that you are going to go more than 5 mph. Try driving 10 mph in a parking lot. Nobody is going to make a left turn going that slow. The KJ was hit in the REAR quarter. That means the rest of the KJ had passed by the stopped KJ. At 5 mph, the Grand would have had plenty of time to stop. Also with that speed, the force would not have sent the KJ anywhere especially flipping over. That story is a lie and the writer is an idiot and has something against KJ's and Jeeps. |
