| Post subject: | Rear seat delete |
So, I have a noise coming from the passenger side rear seat-back (in the cushion, not the latch) that I pin-pointed while my wife drove the truck around. I removed the rear seat assy today to tear it down to rid the seat of the noise. Since we never use the back seat, I was thinking of doing a rear seat delete extending the floor to where the seat ended. Has anyone here done this? |

I know SKRracing did it years ago in his KJ. Built a whole shelving system and all with the rear seats removed. It was pretty cool idea. I dont have any pics of it, sorry. Mike |

Would be a cool idea, where the seats are currently could build in boxes with hinged lids to access them, would be lots of storage! Go for it!!! |

I still need mine every now and again to haul friends/ parents etc, but trying to determine if I can take seats in and out easy enough with storage units to fill in when they are out and make it all flat from front to rear |

It shouldn't be too hard to have a quick-swap setup. You could have the seats out and then just some bolt-in storage and a flat bed. Maybe some brackets that bolt into the seat mounting positions which could support a flat bed or storage or both. There would actually be a lot more room back there with no seats.... |

For a quick follow-up...I found the noise in the rear seat back cushion (passenger side)...if it can help someone else...there is a cable that goes across the seat between the foam and the metal frame with a rubber sleeve that is supposed to keep it quite. I wrapped that cable in foam shipping wrap and put the seat back together...no more noise in the seat!!! |

Dangit....no. I left the seat at work after I took it out and worked on it while I did not have the camera with me. I did not even think of taking pictures |

We've been taking out the rear seats for years, I'm sure you can get a complete floor kit somewhere in The Netherlands or at least building plans etc. We do that so we can register our cars as commercial vehicles and pay less taxes ( ya know..we're Dutch...) You can try sending an email to this guy info@saris4x4.nl , he should know. And all Dutchy's speak English. Here's a pic.

That is just what I had in mind too. The vertical panel behind the seats could be a good place to mount a CB radio, on the front side between the seats, above the console....or a fire extinguisher. Does it extend down to the floor? Is that what supports the front of the deck? Now I want to get busy and do this... |

I believe that the same applies in Southern Ireland as well. Blanked out rear windows and a flat floor will allow the Liberty to be registered as a commercial vehicle thus saving on registration and taxation costs. A quick visit to www.jeep.ie shows a ‘Commercial’ version for both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, there are internal pictures of the Grand Cherokee Commercial showing both the blanked out back windows and a flat floor. Josh. |
