so tonight my girl and i went out to get some formula for my son. she was driving and while at the red light decided to back up some cause she wasnt in the lines good and backed into a truck. heck she only went back about 5" or so and barely hit the truck. the spare tire hit his grill and hood and mashed them in prety bad for how hard we hit. it didnt do anything to the jeep though. just a bad night for us really. im not really sure what to do about the insurance though she has insurance on her car and i have it on mine but whos do we clame it on? the cop said they would suspend her license if we clamed it on mine but that sounded kinda funny. at least no one was hurt so it could have been worse. |

I think most insurance policies cover any vehicle that the holder of the policy drives, IE if I were to drive my mom's car, my insurance would cover it, and if my girlfriend were to drive my Jeep (YEAH, right!) her policy would cover anything that might happen. HOWEVER, YOUR insurance should cover any driver that drives the vehicle, but I think (in most states) if the driver of the vehicle that isn't the policy holder (ie your girlfriend) is in your household, then you have to have her insured as a driver on your policy. Confused yet? I am! Good luck |

For as many wrecks the police write up Ive found they know little to nothing about the whole ordeal. In Kentucky, as long as the driver had permission to drive the vehicle then your insurance covers it(Thats with ours). Im sure its different for other states and such. Best thing to do is to call your insurance and ask. Props for not doing any damage to the liberty! The guy in the truck didnt cause any trouble did he? |

Man, sorry to hear about that. Must have been a horrible way to spend part of last night. I would just call your insurance agent (like everyone else said) and ask their advice. I mean it's not the cop that is going to be cutting the check to get the KJ re-worked. PS: With the thread title - I thought there was going to be more damage described. So it can't really be all too bad right? |

Depending on what your insurance says, you might want to still get your Jeep looked at by a body shop. I've heard a lot of stories of KJ's getting rear ended and looking fine at first but on closer inspection, the tailgate was tweaked a bit. Sorry to hear about it though. |

Sounds like it was the other guys fault. If all you did was backed up 5", then he was tail gating and hit you in the rear end. Should always be 3 to 4 feet between the vehicles. Check with your insurance and see what they say about it. |

My guess is it was more than 5"... 5" in a car is like letting off the brakes and hitting them again a second or two later. |

In Texas, if you are in the reverse gear and get into a wreck, you are automatically at fault. Still, the guy was too close to you...... My insurance policy covers anyone driving my vehicle, no matter what....... |

If auto----your fault, stick and less then 5"------not your fault. Got my insurance set-up for if I'm not in the drivers seat then my KJ doesn't have any insurance(only while in motion),saves me about $30 a month by doing that. |

how can u not see a big truck behind you? did she not even look behind her before moving? If he was that close to you she should have seen him pretty easy. |
