Post subject:  Adding Cruise Control

Hey ya'll, maybe you can help explain something for me. I'm one of those lucky folks with a 2004 KJ that can't add cruise control. I haven't gotten any clear explanations from the guys at the dealership because they just want to get rid of me it seems. As far as I know it has something to do with a servo missing or the wiring harness. If this is the case, couldn't I just replace the wiring harness or add that servo and then install the cruise control package? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers

they made liberty's without cruise? huh, learn something new every day. of course the servo would not be there, that should not be a big deal. However if the wiring isn't already there, you might be up a creek. Changing the wiring harness is generally a big deal.

I don't know the answer, this is just speculation. From researching how to install an evic, there are 2 different BCM's. The more basic BCM does not support the evic (if I rememeber correctly). It is possible that it may not support cruise control either; so changing the harness might not do any good anyhow. I'd go out and check under the hood to see if there are any extra wires/connectors hanging around the engine compartment. I think the servo is mounted on the passenger side, behind the air cleaner box.

Yeah my '02 didn't come with cruise either.(nor power window or roof rails) Noticed it when we picked and talked to the sales guy about it. $200 later and a couple hours trip back to the dealer and I had it. The controls weren't there, but the wiring and such was. Any possiblity of checking with another dealer in the are? good luck,

mike

the wiring is there in the main harness, you will need the steering wheel harness, buttons, and of course the actuator in the engine bay.

I did a writeup on this for the CRDs, it is pretty much the same for the gassers, just that you need to add in the acutuator to the parts list.

search for that and read up on it.

I have an 03 that did not have CC. But i did have the wiring and got the parts a junk yard and all work good for me. I would guess it would be a pain to install wiring.
