I have a 06 CRD that the stealership has been trying to get me to buy their $100 plus fuel filter for the last couple of oil changes.

Anyone have any current info on prices and places to get an OEM Fuel filter not at the stealership prices?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Welcome to LOST

The dealership is expensive but not that expensive - they misread the manual - the filter and head - normally runs about $150 - the filter only - typically runs about $30 - and the names are fuel filter vs water fuel seperator.
I think you can get a Wix verson at NAPA store for about $20 - or cheaper on ebay (haven't tried that)

This is Mopar Parts
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214583

doesn't look like the link kept the info
filter only - Fuel system/Fuel system components/fuel filter - 25.80

the confusion is in
Fuel system/fuel supply/diesel fuel supply/fuel water separator - 101.97 - you only need this if the fuel head is leaking - and you'd be better off getting a racor (if you're out of warranty).

Racor

Thanks ATX

Is a Wix version a good quality like the OEM? I don't want to buy something they can point their finger at if something fails.
Will this one or the Racor void my warranty?

Racor would for sure void a warranty - but will also fix problems the dealers can't find.

Depending on the dealer Wix might get you an argument - but I've heard they're good quality

(I've been doing dealer stuff because of warranty concerns - Drharv had a big problem blamed on a Cat filter that should have been better than stock)

FYI - drift down to the CRD section - lots of threads on fuel filter heads and replacement issues

I changed mine Thursday, took maybe 20 minutes. I bought the OEM from the dealer for , I think, $46. I did take the unit off the firewall to get at the water in filter sensor connection and to get a good grip on the filter, I would never have been able to get it off in place.. I did not disassemble the head unit but I did not see any leaks and have had no evidence of an air leak. I have 24.5K miles, I have had the CRD for 4 months and 4.5K miles. I mostly keep the heater plug out as I live in southern California, only hook it up when I go to cold areas.

I checked at the parts counter when I picked it up and they only want $45 for it. The $100 plus was for the whole unit. I think I'll order it from Mopar for $26

If you're have problems - the place you can normally see leaking is at the fuel head heater plug -
that section is plastic and doesn't seem to have molded well
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=24616&highlight=heater+plug

if you pull the plug and it has diesel on it - it's bad - the diesel supposed to stay on the inside -
the dealer should replace under warranty - once warranty is out the long term fix is the Racor
-it was the unit used on the 2.5L in Europe/Australia.
