I took my entire rear suspension apart by hand, didnt need an impact for anything.

Spray some PB blaster on them a couple days before you start.

The 3 bolts that hold the upper control arm bracket to the rear end are tight all the way out, you won't need air but you'll want it. The bottom bolt is easier to get to if you remove the 3 bolts holding the harmonic balancer from the rear end. It comes off easy and then you can use a socket on the bottom bolt.
There are not really any tricks to it just, its pretty strait forward and doesnt take long at all. Here's a pic from my install a month ago....

cool, thanks, didn't think of taking off the harmonic balancer, but the rear sway bar has been gone for a long long time. 8)

I just had to replace the ball joint in that stupid thing! The boot had a hole in it from a stick. You can't get just the boot. It was a trail causality! The stupid people at the dealership didn't know what it was even though I showed them a picture of it and told them where it was! They insisted that it was in the front. "Put it up on a rack and I'll show it to you". The parts manager isn't exactly what you would call a genius!

I spoke with Marlin about this piece when I ordered my new CV from him. When the KJ is lifted the boot on that ball joint is stretched and can lead to damage. I believe there is also something to do with the pinion angle after the lift as well. The piece simply bridges a gap between the rear diff and the y-link, eliminating stretch on the rear ball joint and restoring proper pinion angle.

what the heck is a pinion angle?

It takes stress off the ball-joint and also angles the diff up which lessens the angle on the u-joints(Pinion angle).
