| Post subject: | V6 petrol Auto/Manual Questions |
G'day lads, need to hear from some clever people here. Right, I have the 04 V6 petrol auto, and I have had a few issues with the auto, not sure if I'm going to have to put a new one in yet, I'll find out a little more about that tomorrow, anyway, Down here in Oz they only ever released the V6 as an auto, they never did the manual option, they did with the CRD and the 2.4 petrol, but not the V6, so is there anyone that knows wheather or not I can get a manual box from there (being an 04 thought the NV3500 5 speed) in the states and replace my auto box with it? By that I mean, will the clutch assemblies fit(bolt on) instead of the auto, does the bell housing look the same and have the same bolt pattern as the auto, I was thinking that because it's the same engine, they would, but, hey, stranger things have happened. Is it going to work with my transfer case?? Yes I know I would have to fit a clutch assembly, thought I could use one from the 4cyl petrol and then either get an ECU from there in the US from a V6 manual, or see if mine could be reflashed as a manual...So many questions, can't seem to find any info down here in Australia as "they don't have a manual V6 option" is what I keep getting told. But, knowing you guys have the manual version maybe some can shed some light on these questions. If I'm going to have to spend 1000's of dollars on a new gearbox, then I may as well see if I can change to a manual, as I personally prefer a manual to the auto, I like the auto for cruising around on road, but, prefer a manual when off road, thats just me. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, or is a mechanic that has worked on these please let me know. Many Thanks cmohr |

in theory it can be done but after all is said and done you would have spent more time and money than if you had just sold what you have and get what you want what is the problem with your auto? |

Very bad vibrations and noises coming from it in rev, and now starting off and on in forward gears, still getting it looked at, have also checked a bit more on the conversion side of things, and whilst it is possible, (in theory) I agree I'd be better off cutting my losses and just getting a CRD Manual, it would have to be an older one though, and then I don't know that that car is any good, so a bit of a rock and a hard place senario going on. Have found someone here in Oz that can import the stuf, major worry would be the ECU side of things, making my auto model accept the manual. I love MY Jeep, and the particular model it is, and to step down to a base model really dissappoints me, but, anyway, I'll keep searching for answers. see what turns up. |

Yeah, much smarter to just buy a KJ that has all the equipment on it [that you want] instead of sinking money into an existing one. You'll never get any of that money back if you have to sell it. |
