Hi I have an '05 Libby. It now has just a tad past 20K on it. It has the standard auto tranny. Yes, she gets used a lot on our geocaching expeditions. I have noticed over the past 5k or so that it is going out of overdrive without my pushing the button. The OD light lights up "off" as well. Have not really been able to pinpoint when it has happened except for tonight on the way home from work to avoid a rear ender, I nailed the brakes tonight and it did it again. Other times seems to have been while in cruise control for no apparent reason on fairly level terrian. Mean Sea Level here is about 1000'. Question is is this a normal thing? When it goes out, pushing the OD button takes it immediately back in. Other than that the tranny seem perfect and shifts great. A bit concerned as I have read many threads about the apparent weak auto and it does not have the 75K warrenty. Oh, also I have never had a "hot" transmission light even flicker. Thanks for your time Jack |

Sure sounds odd to me. I have the same tranny you do (assuming you have the 3.7L) and mine has never done that in 2 1/2 years. I'd take a trip to your dealer. |

My first thought is that the switch on the gear shifter for the Overdrive button may be going bad. |

Pressing the 'O/D' off button on the shifter sends an electonic signal to the transmission that tells the gear box to lock out the overdrive. If your car is going in without pressing the button, than you are having a electical issue with possibly two things: 1.) The shifter itself (the switch or wiring) 2.) The transmission (the box that 'locks out' the O/D) Definently take your Liberty to the dealer and report the issue.... It won't fix itself over time and could get worse. |

On some vehicles, the computer will lock out overdrive if the transmission gets too hot. Might be that way with Jeep as well. |
