| Post subject: | Oil Light |
Hey guys whats up, im new here, my names Brandon... On my way to work this morning, my oil light came on for a about 2-3 seconds, then it went off... i have never seen this happen before. Is this something i should look further into? After work im going to check the oil level to make sure its not low. I know its a stupid question, but how many quarts and what type of oil is recommended for the 3.7L? thanks alot! |

5 quarts of 5w-30 or 10w30 depending on where you live. A problem like this is usually the oil pressure sensor which is located above the oil filter. Not a hard or $$ change and its a good place to start. If the engine starts making noises or knocking then its probably to late and you really did loose pressure. |

Thank you so much for the explanation. Things like this tend to eat at me until i get an answer haha. I will scope things out after work today and follow up. The engine did seem to be running fine. and it is pretty cold here in NJ right now, dont no if that matters |

Before you just change the oil pressure sensor after seeing the light come on and then go out you need to get the oil pressure checked.Just because the engine is running fine does not mean that something is not wrong. The 3.7 has a low "warm" idle oil pressure(3-4psi at 650rpm) so you don't want to second guess with those low numbers and then really have a problem and blow the engine up. |

alright, so i checked out the scenario... the oil level is fine, actually looked like it was a bit over filled from the shop i get my work done at. so i brought it there, and the mechanic told me that the oil level was fine, than i asked him why it was a little over the safe mark, and he said that it would be fine and that the motor can handle a little extra with no negative effects. so i took his word for it and let it be. After that he proceeded to show me that the oil sensor was the only thing leaking, and they would fix it for around $100. Does that seem like too much money? And does that oil convo that we had sound ok? im guessing that sensor would take all of 15min to replace, appears to be cake work, so if it is ill just do it myself. thanks for the info guys... |

yea, i drive a lot for my job so i get oil changes more often than most people. so in about two weeks im going to need another change (i like to be over protective of my engine, sometimes i change the oil at 2500mile intervals, i know im insane...) so ill just have them throw it in there for me... i miss having a workspace for my vehicles... stupid town houses |

$100 isnt to bad to get that part changed out. I put exactly 5 quarts of oil in my 3.7 and the dip-stick says its a tick over full everytime, so it should be ok. |
