We have noticed that the interior lights sometimes come on for no reason in 2002 models. Sometimes if you play w/ the switch they will turn off but at times will turn on. We noticed this in 3 different KJ's.

Likewise, one KJ the headlights turn on for no reason.

Anybody else have these electrical issues?

Mine inside lights use to come on for no reason. Ran the battery down twice.

That was over a year ago and its not happened since.

I have an '02 and from time to time if the rotory switch that controls briteness of the dash lights is turned up too high. as soon as I hit a little bump the interior lights come on all by themselves. Turn the dash lights back a little bit and see it the problem reoccures. :D

The 02 that I used to have did that. I thought I was seeing things one night. I was setting outside and the inside lights went on and off. I figured it was the beer! Better have another one! I took it in, under warranty, and had it checked out. I was very lucky it didn't catch on fire. It was a very bad short in a wire harness under the hood. It was melted!! They replaced the whole harness and that took care of it. I think that was in 03 and when I traded it in on my 05 there still wasn't any problems.

That is one of the symptoms of a faulty multifunctional switch (the turn signal switch on the steering collumn) failure. Not sure if it was ever recalled but the dealership fixed mine for free. Wife's 02 did the same things.

Go get a new multifunction switch, All of ya.

It's the switch, no recall was ever done. I think it's only happening to the early 2002 models.

02 Here - Intermitent flicker of the "brightness" on the IP lights when I use the blinkers because of the loose rotary dimmer switch but I have never noticed any of the other issues described here.

I currently have this problem on an 02. Interior lights come on while driving and have to switch them on then off using stalk switch. Have turned it one click so milage and radio display are slightly dimmer ok since. The problem is most certainly the stalk if I play about with it same symptoms occure.

wife's 02 does this too, I will have to play with the dimmer control to see if that corrects it.

Yup, Yup. Same issue with my '02 when I'd keep dash lights at full bright. I backed the rotary switch down one and have never had the problem again.

I'm replacing the multi-function stalk (lights) on my KJ today because it started acting up a couple of days ago. It started with a random clicking sound, then the lights wouldn't turn off when I got out. They would turn off by themselves after a while, as they normally would, but the switch wouldn't turn them off. Seems like these are one of those regular maintenance items for the KJ. At least I got 5 years out of mine.... :?

Mine did this for a long time, and I'd just turn the dimmer down and ignore it. Eventually, like someone said, I could hear the light relay click from time to time. Ignored all of that for more than 100K miles, until the headlights clicked off on the freeway in the middle of the night. If anybody's on the fence about replacing the MFS, I'd recommend doing it sooner rather than later.

Funny this topic should come up. Mine just started acting up! It's funny how the same things happen to groups of us at the same time...seems to happen alot, too.

Anyway...My domes stay on even if I turn the dimmer all the way down. The dimmer has no control over them. Also, when I step on my brake pedal I get a clicking noise (like a relay), but only once (like the first stop of the morning) then it stops doing that.

I assume it's the MFS, and I'm going to change it and see.
