| Post subject: | Trailer Fun |
I have a little utility trailer I bought last summer, it needs some TLC - new plywood sides and floor, clean up and repaint the frame etc... So I was playing with a pic, here's the original and what I'd like to do:
Should be a fun project for the summer. I don't think I'll get it exactly like that but that's the idea I'm aiming for with the colour scheme Dave |

Lots of trailer topics. Looks good, but I don't think the stock wheels (16"), will fit on your trailer, you'll probably need a 14" or 15" wheel. Like how you incorporated the fender flares and trim on the trailer...very cool. |

hahaha, that little tire that looks like the kj's is awesome. Think how many revs that thing is turning at 70mph! |

LOL, yeah as I said I don't think I'll get it exact, the actual wheels on the trailer are 8", don't think the KJ's stock wheels come that small The side of the trailer and the wheel/fender flares were cloned off the Jeep of course, I'm not going to be able to do that in real life but will paint the existing wheels and fender flares to match the Jeep. I may hit the scrapyard and see if I can get some side moulding though, that would be cool... or I could just make it with wood and paint it. I'm looking forward to having some fun with it. Just have to wait for the snow to melt! Any more ideas to "Jeepatize" my trailer, feel free to suggest! Maybe it needs a SkySlider top! |

You might consider making a wooden mold and then laying some fiberglass and resin building up the Mini Femders |

I would definately suggest bigger wheels to help with wheel bearing life at highway speeds. I upgraded from 8's to 12's for this reason. I'd like to go with 14's after I lift my KJ. My trailer needs some metal work as well. Be sure to post pics of the completed project. |

I'll have to look into that, it's a possibility and would give me an excuse to re-do the fenders as Rush345 suggested! I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same or if they'd fit otherwise. I'm not sure I'd want to go to the extent of replacing the axle. It's not a big deal at this point as I don't pull it very far (mostly trips to the "waste transfer station" during renovations or for moving around large stuff), but you never know. Plus it would give it a lift, and who can argue with that? |

Or install a lift kit for the trailer. LOL |

Once you're done with the makeover, you'll need a "Trail Rated" badge for it. Looks like a great project!!! |

LOL had to do a spring-over conversion on my dad's utility trailer so my Montero, then my Trooper, and now my KJ and his Colorado can pull it without dragging the back end |

I think I would try to find a salvage yard truck bed, then pick up from the wrecking yard the mid-body beltline trim the rear bumper and lastly maybe the front fenders since they are one peice, paint to MATCH and ad a top cover wheather soft or hard ad the stock KJ trail lights and matching wheels and your tow rig is a true work of art. |

LOL, thanks guys... perhaps I've set the bar a little high on this one, I was really only thinking of a paint job and a little trim work... However, the truck bed idea is interesting... going to that extent though I'm thinking it might be easier just to get the whole back half of the truck and sell the old trailer Dave |
