Sorry to talk about the TJ here but yesterday Jeep tested the new body style TJ at Paragon in Pa it had a 3.7 and they had a 4 door!!! They were covered so you could not get a good look. They did manage to flop one of them. Did anyone else see anything?

I was all excited about the 4 door TJ. Until I read up about it on other sites. I can't remember where, so this is only as I remember it.

No more soft/hard tops, they are going to a modular top system
Gas tank on the side instead of the rear
Side airbags due to govt standards or some crap like that

That's also the reason for the change in the tops. They needed to work the side curtains into a pillar of some sort.

so no more removeable tops!?!?!

and the 3.7!!!! BOO

LEAVE THE TJ ALONE!!!!

If it aint broke, don't break it!!!!

D/C ruined the CJ by going to the YJ, how about we leave it alone. Are TJ sales so low that a redesign is really necessary?

This is as bad as changes on an EPR!!! Why must things always be changed for no reason more than the sake of change.

sorry for the rant, but really why do we need a redesign every 2-3-4 years?

But the big question is...SFA or IFS?

Post subject:  TJ redesign is necessary

As much as I hate to see the 4.0 engine go away, it is completely understandable that DC would make the change. As of 2006, the Wrangler is the last remaining Jeep or DC product that used the engine. I doesn't make sense for them to keep it if the engine is made for a single model. Other Jeep and DC cars and truck use similar engines like the 3.7 V6 4.7/5.7 V8. Too bad, but it had to happen.
What I don't understand is why there hasn't been any buzz about one of the CRD engines going to the Wrangler. That the one thing the TJ needs is some remote semblense of fuel efficiency......

It's actually not a TJ, it's A TK, and the long 4-door version is the TKL.

I don't really understand the big deal about the new modular top. I guess I understand the purist stand point a little, but I think it will actually be for the best. This way you can remove all the panels (roof, sides, lift gate) and have a practically topless vehicle without having to worry about fiting it into the gargage and being such a pain to put back on. Now, all you need is a way to store the removable panels on the Jeep and then you could go wheeling topless and when it start to rain or get cold then put the top back on. This thread reminds me of all the XJ people bashing the KJ when it first was introduced. Plus how can you complain when it will still be SFA and come w/ an option for 33s standard.

well, if the modular top means that it stays removable, then I misunderstood. and that is ok.

I hope the deisel does go into this TK. Maybe this will lead way to the Gladiator being released soon after...

My main point is that it seems models change too often. I think it is a move just to drop resale values, and drive the aftermarket nuts and more expensive!

As for AMC's role in the YJ, what I have been told is that yes AMC designed it, showed it and decided it was going to flop and was going to go to a different dash design, then the whole Chrysler take over, and the dash stayed as is. As you can tell, the dash is what I really can not stand on the YJ, yeah, the square lights are odd too...

Likely just another camo technique. I doubt Jeep would put square healights on their SWB vehicle again. Everyone knows how well that went over with the YJ.

doesn't that 4 door one look like a scrambler or an old wagoneer? i will be very sad if they get rid of the TJ/Wrangler as we know it. heck, i don't even like the unlimited version. i love my TJ because it is tiny, if i had wanted a bigger car i would have bought an XJ (KJ wasn't available at the time). we bought the TJ with the intention of keeping it forever and now it looks like it might prematurely become a collector's item!
