I'm having an issue with my transfer case.

Here's the story.

The roads were snow covered. I was in Full-Time stopped behind a bus. I went to pullout to pass the bus and the front tires grabbed and I heard a bang and then a lot of grinding. I shifted into 2wd ASAP and through my Jeep into neutral.

Once I shifted back into Drive I was fine. Part-Time seems to be okay but in Full-Time if I accelerate from a stop it grinds, or if I stop. When I am in motion it "seems" to work fine. I couldn't get under the Jeep, it's snowing pretty badly and it's dark.

Any ideas?...

Oddly enough, I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow. I was hoping to trade-in my KJ for a JK.

Just my luck...

Take it in and hope they don't check 4 low. Do a millitary thing, "they don't ask, you don't tell!"

haha, i agree with that. when i was trading in my TJ for the KJ....Reverse was almost gone, it clicked and grinded. So when I parked it at the dealer, I made sure to back into a spot, so they wouldn't have to use reverse when they drove it. hahah

as far as the grinding grumppee...so the front made a big bang....was there diff fluid all over??? if part time works, then it wouldn't be a blown diff most likely. When you get a chance crawl under that bugger and check the front drive shaft, and look for fluid leaks from the diff and t-case.

I couldn't see any fluid.

BTW I bought a 08 JK Unlimited Rubicon.

Sounds like the linkage needed adjusting. No worries now though!

Sucks for who buys it though. :?

The KJ looks 10x better IMO

The KJ was a great vehicle for the 6 years I had ownership. The forward slope is nothing out of the ordinary for a stock JK Unlimited.

I plan on installing a 2.5in lift and 35in tires on AEV Pintler wheels. The lifts are designed to level out the Jeep by providing additional lift for the front.
