Why does something involving Wranglers not belong in the Wrangler discussion forum rather than the KJ General Discussion forum?

Good point, and actually this thread could go into the CRD section, Wrangler section, General Discussion section, or Jeep Diesel Fueled Vehicles section. So, I chose to “unofficially” put the thread start in the CRD section, as it caters to all the guys/girls who are diesel nuts already, and then I requested a thread start in this section in hopes to expose more people to the good news who would not normally go into the CRD forum. The official word will come from the Forum Moderators who will decide where it should permanently go. So I hope this explains my intentions. In the meantime, let’s hope that the good news turns into a reality! Who knows, maybe this will turn into it’s own Section called, “Jeep Wrangler 2.8L Diesel engine swap, 1997-2006”! 8)

There is a guy in Ohio selling 20 4bt cummins motors with trannies that I'm sure will swap into a Wrangler, etc... for 1/4 the price anything from Mopar will run.

A 4BT is like a 700lbs engine by itself,then you'll need at least a NV4500 tranny(stick) or a turbo400 auto tranny(minimum) to handle that torque.

Yep, 700#. About what most early V8's weighed. You can also easily bolt a 6.2L or 6.5L in using SBC stuff if you wanted.

You can spend a lot more. Newer, higher output 4bt's run around $6k, but have 170hp & about 325 ft/lb.

All of this is rumor and conjecture, and I personally will be surprised IF such a kit comes to market for less then $15k. Now, just like the Viper aluminum V10, anything can be done. But does that make them a great idea? Is it worth the money when you are done? Only the guy signing the check can decide that.

The CRD guys better hope it happens. The fact that the CRD was sold in such a small # here makes them statistically insignificant despite the success of the expirement. The more of these 2.8's that get out there, the easier that ownership of one will become a few years down the road. For some odd reason I like KJ's, and anything that furthers the cause will help.

The 4BT is almost 800lbs dressed out
Here's a 5.9L Cummins in a Wrangler

This would be such a cool deal especially if they make it somewhat affordable. I would love to tinker w/ a diesel Wrangler project and would even sell off my XJ to do so. I would go the budget build route on the lift mods buying used and cheap parts and spent the good money on the conversion.
I see no problem w/ this post being in here for a while longer just to get the word out. Both will probably get moved into the Wrangler or Other Diesel section in the near future though.

IMHO, the number of view "hits" it has had means it is has a place here. Even without many posters, people are looking.

I would like a more modern alternative than a 4bt, as well. I guess I am being cautious because I look at the Mopar MPI kit for the 4.2L & its cost, & I see that aftermarket kits are much much cheaper, and it just makes me wonder if it will be marketed correctly for success.

If that is a 6BT in that wrngler, the last have 25% must be between the shifters  .
