| Post subject: | Seat Belt Chime IS KILLING ME! |
Okay everyone... before anyone starts the seat belt lecture, let me start by saying that I always wear my seat belt when I'm driving. What annoys me though is when I move the car like after washing it, or moving it from one parking space to another in a supermarket lot, and the freakin chime will not stop!!! Does anyone know where the chime is located by the fusebox? If someone can get me a specific location I can desolder it and be done. I do not want any redneck fixes here... I just want the chime chip out of the car. What I've tried so far: I thought the seat belt buckle may have something to do with it, so I tried checking resistance/continuity when the buckle is in and when it is out, to see if the metal buckle was used to complete a circuit. I tried this by disconnecting the wiring to the belt buckle underneath the driver's seat, then used a multimeter connected to the two leads within the connector. The belt being in the buckle made no difference electrically. So, after that I figured what the heck and tried jumpering the two leads together with a small piece of wire. Still no dice. The seatbelt light still comes on when it's put into drive, and the chime starts going.... does anyone have any decent ideas on this??? Please, constructive help only... and NO, I cannot just live with it!! |

no need to rip the KJ apart! Open yer manual - there's a disabling sequence in there! I'd type it out here - but i'm on the couch with my laptop and too lazy to go get my book! Let me know if you can't find it - I'll bring my manual in tomorrow night Sue |

If I have my libby started or the key at least in the "on" position then it only chimes like 3 or 4 times and then stops. I don't have to listen to it again unless I turn the car off. |

I don't know about any sequence for disabling it, but I would recommend against trying to desoldier the chime. It's a part of the entire dash cluster aka EMIC (ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster) and is the chime/buzzer for every feature in the vehicle. If you take it out you'll lose the chime for important warnings like airbags, brakes, oil pressure, etc. |

Read the Manual...it's in there. Somthing about having the seat belt on...and key off then turning key to on position (not started) and then unbuckle/buckle the seatbeat 3 times in less than 10 seconds and then turn the key off if I remeber right.... The exact sequence is in the manual.... Good luck |

I hate that chime too. Does drive me crazy. Sometime I don't use the seatbelt just running up to the corner store. |

Can somone post the exact procedure? My Liberty originally didn't come with the seatbelt warning chime, but in 2004 I had to have the insturment cluster replaced. Ever since then, the chime goes off at more than 5MPH if you don't have the seat belt buckled for more than 30 seconds... My owners manual doesn't have the procedure in it since the chime wasn't part of the original purchase, so I asking for someone to help me out. (Before you ask why) I drive with my belt off when I am putting my boat in the water / taking it out at the ramp. When I am in parking lots [ATM's, Drive Throughs, etc.] I always wear my belt on the road, I just hate the chime! |

While we are on the subject how about something for the rear glass being open... sometimes when getting wood for a remodel or project it would be nice to have it open and not chime... Thanks Mike |

The engineer(s) who came up with this sequence obviously spent his/her/their formative years with a Nintendo... |

I'd be carefull with this. I think the Feds require the chimes to stay on. It's like mattress tags... |

Yeah like mattress tags...which you are allowed to remove after you purchase it...just not by the seller or manufacturer. |
