Anyone install an OEM engine block heater in their 3.7L? I ordered one off the web thinking it wouldn't be so difficult to install but the instructions (vague as they are) looks like the entire engine compartment needs to be disassembled just to get to the cap where it installs. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this. Thanks. |

You live in Iceland and don't have one? |

I bet you have a lot colder weather than we get here in Iceland. The average winter temp is a balmy 34 degrees F |

If it is anything at all like the old inline six in the Cherokee, I would send it back. It involves punching out a freeze plug and replacing it with the block heater, all by feel as the location was under the exhaust header. I blew 2 heaters literally out of the freeze plug holes, and then gave up and put a freeze plug back in, which is a very difficult job as it had to be done by feel. I'd go with a lower radiator hose heater instead or along that line. By the way the block heater looks like nothing more that one of those old water heaters used to heat up one cup of water, with a brass plate and o-ring. mikemd wrote: Anyone install an OEM engine block heater in their 3.7L? As difficult as you make it sound... Thats how the instructions make it look. A pain in the stupid. I'm gonna check with my local dealership to see how much they charge for the install. Thanks. |

The only ones I know about are basically a heated oil drain plug. |

No... it is exactly what vlavestem describes. A heating element that inserts in place of a drain or plug in the coolent system. the plug/drain is in a very awkward place underneath the left headers. |
