Checked the tranny dip this weekend with it running and in Neutral and it showed fluid level between the hot and cold mark. The fluid color on the stick appeared to be decent but I'm still wondering if I should change it because of all the extreme miles i've put on the thing lately? Anyone know what filter sizes I need for inside the tranny and a good ATF-4 brand to use? I have about 29K on the odo. Thanks, Scott |

Mopar ATF+4 from your local auto shop is probably the best to choose from. Don't use a regular fluid and then an additave to "make ATF+4." That's just going to give you headaches and a busted transmission. I can't tell you the P/N off the top of my head but one of our smarter members will be along shortly |

I can't tell you the P/N off the top of my head but one of our smarter members will be along shortly I don't know the P/N either, but make sure that the filter they give you is for the 42RLE. The computer for Advance Auto here in town indicated that ALL Liberties ran the 45RFE transmission, and gave me the incorrect filter. The correct filter came from a Wrangler parts list. Oh yeah, if they ask for the bolt pattern, the 42RLE is a 13 bolt pan - NOT 15. It ran about $25. |

Appreciate the help so far... So for those that have changed their tranny fluid about how much more did you have to put in. I saw when I did some searching that the average is about 5-6 quarts?? Thanks again!! -Scott |

Thanks again!! -Scott That's what I used when I dropped the pan without the flush. 5 quarts then topped off another 1/2 after a couple trips. Here's what the filter looks like. Also check for the a rubber gasket that comes with the kit before you drop the pan.

Yea, MAKE SURE the new filter has the little rubber gasket on the spout. Mine didnt some with one so I used the old one. If you forget this, the tranny will slip and probably go into limp mode. My tranny took an amazing 8 quarts when I changed it. Im pretty sure its because I dropped the valve body trying to install the shift kit. And if your tranny shifts alittle weird after the change then its probably normal. Its best if you get a 'quick learn' done at the dealer but I never did. I always unhook the battery after a tranny fluid change to allow the tranny to relearn. |
