I have been thinking about one of those oil filter relocation kits. It seems like a good idea, since this would make the job of changing the filter easier, and certainly cleaner. However, after looking for a suitable location to mount it, I couldn't find one. At least in the engine compartment. I didn't look underneath. Does anyone have one of these installed. Pictures would be helpful.

I haven't found a perfect location yet. I'm wanting to add an Amsoil by-pass. Once I get a front bumper installed, then I will look at my options again. Troy at Rocklizard fabrications has been working with me on finding a good location. I have the by-pass kit here at home. When I bring my KJ to Colorado Springs, I will have Troy and Marty look at more options.

I have used Amsoil's bypass filter system and love it.

Just look at the options availabe whether you use Amsoils filters or not the extra convient relocation of the filter makes oil filter changes so much easier. 8) 8) 8)

So where did you put yours? The bypass/remote filter is on my project-to-do list once back from Moab.

I don't have it in my Jeep yet it was in my Toyota Pick-up. Upon looking at the Jeeps engine bay I'm thinking of either shoe horning it on the Drivers side firewall with maybe a spacer bracket to fit in the void there or do some more mods as in trimming the air box and going right behind the air box.
Look rather tight no matter what but I also like having the Filter easier to change also.

The only picture I've seen is o8k's CRD -

The CRDs might have a little more room behind the battery, but on mine, the ECM(?) is located there. I was also thinking somewhere near the air cleaner box, but it's pretty tight. Maybe there is room near the radiator/grill where I could incorporate the filter and an oil cooler.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Amsoil setup in addition to the original filter? I kind of have the Trans-Dapt from
Summit in mind.

Remember, the oil filter on the 3.7L engine is located on the driver’s side. Running a hose from the driver’s side to the passenger side would not be a good idea. You want your new filter mount to be as close to the original location as possible, yet in a more convenient location. In my case scenario, I plan to install a by-pass system, which would place the full flow and by-pass filter next to each other on the same mounting plate. The engine bay is very tight for this type of application without some degree of modification. I do have a few ideas, but both ideas will require a custom mounting bracket and some modification of under hood parts.

You can get a kit that relocates your stock air filter with the addition of your by-pass filter it also comes with a mounting bracket leaving the Shoe Horn to make it fit :D  8)

If youre going to go through the trouble of relocating it, go ahead and add and engine oil cooler. 8)

I don't have a picture, but I did relocate (2002 3.7) to horizontal under radiator support (think just in front of sway bar). Changing is a snap and it is up high enough that trail damage isn't an issue.

Pretty sure I got some film in the closet so I could take a couple Polaroids, but I am not so sure about the photo posting. Let me see what I can do.

that looks like a safe spot for it, and easier to get at. How do these relocation setups fare in extreme cold?

I've been using the 0w-30 for years. Stated useing it in myb '95 Dodge Dakota and it's was what they recommended for the Jeep, raised my eyebrow the first time I heard about it but no regrets. 8) 8)
