First I want to say thanks to everyone for making this a great forum, allot of good information!

Recently we added our 2nd Liberty to the family. My 05 liberty has a 40 series off-road flowmaster exhaust on it and I am very happy with it, while driving my wife’s 04 we spotted a liberty in front of us with dual exhaust on it... She really liked the look of it.

I went and did some research and found several different sites offering the Borla Dual exhaust kit from anywhere from $600 to $850 bucks.

So my question for everyone is... has anyone heard good or bad about them? Does anyone have one on their libby?
IF so how loud is it?
Here is a link to the kit I am talking about: http://borlaparts.com/product.php?productid=336891

I understand that most will think it is crazy to pay all the money for it but if it keeps her happy and lets me buy more stuff I’ll be happy.

Thanks in advanced for any input!

If you eve take you KJ off road it will be a royal pain. But , as the old saying goes "IF MAMA'S NOT HAPPY NOBODYS HAPPY". So the dual exhaust could be the lesser of evils

O I know it is only going to get worse, it’s to be expected with a question such as this....

However, "HER" jeep will not see much trial action at all. The most mud and dirt it will get on it is going up our driveway. She wants it just because it looks good, and typically what I have found in my short experience in married life is that it is often a good idea to keep the wife happy (as much as possible) and that in turn will hopefully make me happy and wont question when I purchase my new bumper for my libby !

If she just likes the look I'd look into fabing up a duel exhaust instead of paying for the borla name. Pretty sure you can figure something out to have two pipes a lot cheaper that what they offer. Even taking it to a muffler shop they should be able to help you out in bending some pipe and possably some hangers and when they charge an arm and a leg for their time it still should be a lot less than the Borla kit.

x2. Get a Flowmaster 2.5" center single inlet and 2.5" dual outlet and any muffler shop could easily bend up some pipe for you.

Here is a link to summit racing: LINKY

but you probably can find them cheaper on ebay.

All she can really see are the Borla Tips anyways... get a cheaper exhaust made with those those on it..

or just glue them the the bottom of the bumper and leave the exhaust as it is  (ok that's just wrong)

My wifes had the Borla single and it was fine until the rocks killed the muffler. Added a flowmaster to it and left the borla tail pipe and tip and I think it works better now than before but...... it is crazy loud at about 1600 rpm which you spend quite a bit of time in off road and crusing. We will probably change it to a quiter muffler in the future to keep mama happy.

If your wife just likes the look, have a muffler shop add a false 2nd pipe and a pair of stainless tips to it to get the look.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

I looked into getting one bent and found a local guy with a pipe bender that a few of my friends have had work done and said he does good work and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg.

I am taking her jeep into his place tomorrow and he is going to look and see what he can do. His first impression when he looked at it quick today is that wasn’t able to do it because it would be too close to the gas tank on the left side, but said he would put it in the air and see what he can do.

I agree that the borla you are paying for the name, we will see what he can do and what he charges for it!

Thanks again everyone ill keep you posted!

I've got the Borla/Mopar dual outlet exhaust and love it. It sounds great when you start it up. People look over and look confused when they see a Liberty. It's not too loud inside though. The performance increase was noticeable also. I actually got mine off Ebay from a dealer in Florida for $400 delivered. That was 6 years ago though.

How has the borla heald up over the last four years ?

How loud is it driving down the road at around 2 grand ?

The guy at the shop I am going to is an extera exhaust dealer, and "highly recommended" one of his extera mufflers if he is indeed able to bend a custom dual for me... I have not heard to much about extera, has anyone else?

And he kinda of turned up his nose when I siad if he bent the exhaust I would want to put a flowmaster muffler on it.

I also ran the Borla duals,I liked it and only lightly scraped the tips twice when offroading,at MOAB last year everybody was saying that the tips would be ripped off, that didn't happen..I finally crushed the huge Borla muffler on Chinaman's Gultch trail here in CO,flattened it to about 2" thick(from like 7" thick).I kinda miss it every now and again untill I I take my rear bumber and skids off, then I'm glad I have no tail pipe going past the rear axle now.

The Borla holds up very well as long as you don't tear it up on some rocks. Mine is like brand new after 6 years. Inside the Jeep, it really isn't that loud at 2k rpm. Sounds about like a small V8.

Yeah the Borla muffler doesn't really like the whole wieght of a KJ sitting on it,or more like slamming on it about 5-6 times.

Well I just found one here on the internet for $475 shipped to my door.

I am still going to see how much my local guy wants to bend one, but after his attitude about it being to close to the gas tank and wanting to put an extera muffler on I am not to thrilled.

The wifes birthday is next sunday I would like to have it on for her by then...with either option I choose.

Thanks for all the input again !

where does the 2nd pipe on the borla get routed? Doesnt seem like a whole ton of space back there.

From the pictures I have seen it crosses over right in fron of the gas tank and then over the axle and between the gas tank and the rear spring...

But I am sure one of the others guys that have had it on will chime in....

I am leaving now to go and put her up in the air to see if the guy will bend me one.

So I just got back from the exhaust guy and he said he WILL NOT bend a dual exhaust for me because he feels that there is no good way to do it and it would be too close to the gas tank.
He did offer to put a single outlet Extera on for $395.00

He kinda pissed me off.

Get her the Borla that she wants for $475. Do you really want to deal with disappointing her? She'll be very happy with it, which might translate to happy with you too.

Look for another muffler guy, if Bolla can do it for big bucks some competent welder should be able to do a cosmetic dual for less money.
