For those of you that have fire extinguishers mounted in your KJ's. Where did you mount them, and can you post a pic or two please?

Under the driver's seat, clamped to the bottom of the seat frame.

Inbetween the drivers seat frame and the door. Easy acess but also out of the way. It's in the same location as where everyone mounts their mag lights.

I mounted mine in the back, at the botton surface of the right hand rear window. Screwed it right into the plastic. Will take a pic and post it later.

Is it recommended that you keep it out of the sun? How about mounting it near the rearward windows in the cargo area?

Seems safer to keep it out of the sun. The side of mine say to store under 120 degrees. I guess it's ok mounted in the sun on Wranglers when the tops are off, but it's a green house in the KJ's. That'd be a heck of a mess.

I could imagine coming back to the KJ and not being able to see IN because the F/Ext exploded and covered the whole inside in fine white powder including the windows! At that point I think u report it stolen!
Never had an Ext explode but did have a SCUBA tank pop because of heat. Burst valve blew while I was driving. Almost drove off the highway! First a loud bang/pop then the sound of 3500 lbs of air escaping all at once through an 1/8" hole!
On a side note... Did anyone see the Mythbusters reenactment of the Jaws stunt where they shot a SCUBA tank with a high powered rifle!?

Yeah, i saw that episode. They couldnt get it to explode so the FBI blew it up inside that container. That was great.

I really doubt that a fire extinguisher will explode while in your KJ or any vehicle for that matter. My previous vehicle was a dark blue Ranger and I had a fire extinguisher in there the entrie time I owned it. The extinguisher made it through 4 or 5 summers just fine where the interior of the truck would be 20-30 degrees hotter than the hottest days in Maryland. Don't take this as gosple, just my experiences.

down low is best. I have it mounted like shown in first pic. If you mount it high, and in rear plastic, in an accident it will likely come off ripping screws from plastic. I WOULD NOT want to be hit in the back of the head by it! You think it would be messy to clean up the exploding extinguisher? How about the exploding HEAD! Well, I guess at least i wouldn't be the one cleaning up my own brains!

He's not kidding! I had the aforementioned SCUBA tank in a rack in the rear of my Camaro when I had to slam on the brakes. The tank was laying flat in a rack behind the rear seats (Car is a hatchback). The tank flew out of the rack and slammed into the headrest of my seat! Luckily I had a headrest there! It wacked it so hard I thought I got rear ended. Plus the thing weighed about 40 lbs!

m0th & adamisadam...how did you mount it there??? i was looking this weekend, and the screw holes in the FE mount dont line up anywhere to be able to get two of them to line up so i can drill through the frame. I was thinking about using a piece of flat iron, and use the bolts to "clamp" it to the rail...any thoughts???

I mounted mine on the inside (underneath the seat) of the frame rail. I used the same screws as the flashlight mount. Used one existing hole and drilled one new one.

Later, the mount cracked, so I just recently used zip ties to keep that FE bracket securely fastened to the frame. I think it's stronger this way. never seen a zip tie snap in a crash before!

I like this because I can reach the FE quickly, yet it's not GLARING out every time I open my door. I can even see my gauge just by looking down. This was helpful during my last Jamboree run when they inspected it at check in!

Funny thing is, all the fire experts say DO NOT attempt to put out a car fire. Especially if it's under the hood and you have to open the hood to access it. Supposedly the goodies (plastics, fluids, etc) all burn EXTREMELY hot, as in 2000* or so. And no amount of hand held FE is gonna save your eyebrows from that heat.

That being said, I personally put out a small fire that started from a leak in an oil line to the gauge. Oil was dripping on manifold and caught fire. We BLEW IT OUT and then used a match to melt the line closed. Finished the drive to The Shore! (Gotta bet to the beach on Memorial Day weekend!)

I also figure the FE is good when you're in the woods, more for putting out small brush fires that may start by accident or something.
