Alright, i have had this problem with my kj off and on since i bought it, i have a EXTREMELY annoying rattle somewhere in the tailgate, its not just over bumps or anything, its constant, as soon as im over 10km an hour it does it non stop, enough so that i actually have to crank the music to FULL just so i cant hear it. I will refuse too keep a vehicle with such an annoying rattle in the back that i cant fix. My 15 year old car didnt have such a bad rattle. I dont care if it get the odd rattling going over bumps or pitholes but this one is ridiculous.

Also its not always there, yesterday i drove 100km in it, not one noise, day before wouldnt stop. Today its worse then ever. Is there any fix to get rid of such a stupid rattle, it sounds like a screw rolling around inside the body so its a sharp rattle which can be heard easy and over music easy.

Did you install any speakers into your tail gate liner?
I did and I have that noise.

I have loose wires in it but too lazzy to fix it.

Have you pulled off the liner before? Couls have broke one of the clips and it is hanging. Just some ideas.

Did you buy your KJ brand new? If not, do you know the owners of the Jeep you purchased it from?

My Jeep makes the same rattling noise, and a fellow L.O.S.T. member suggested that it may have been ever so slightly rear-ended or backed into something not to make any visible damage but to break the internal welds in the tailgate of your spare so that it makes that rattling sound. Mine also doesn't do it sometimes, but at times you really wish it wouldn't... When I removed the spare from the tailgate there was a small crease visible around the mounts where you could tell it had been hit or bumped which broke the internal weld. Someday I may pull the tailgate insulation out and re-weld the mount so it doesn't rattle.

If this isn't the case you may try tightening or lubing a few things around the tailgate area to see if that helps.

As for being rear ended, i do not beleive so, because it went months at a time before without a noise from the rear. I had issues before but the dealership tightened everything up and seemed to be fixed. Now its realllly bad, bad enough to where i would rather walk then listen to such a noise.

If you hit your spare tire with your hand does it rattle?

Could just need to be adjusted. Ive adjusted mine twice since owning it.

same trouble, I welded the spare tire support plates inside the tail gate, problem solved...Open the tailgate. Hit the spare. If it rattles you need to get a welder.

See this http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32835

i read your fix, unfortunately, i dont own a welder, dont know how to weld and dont know anyone who welds. This sucks... lol

But the rattle sounds diff then the rattle the spare tire gives it, like a screw tapping it constantly.

Ok so then there are several known rattles: tail gate lock and or rear glass lock. Rear seat latch....have someone sit in the rear seat to locate the rattle.

It's a Jeep thing...

I had the rattle too. I just shifted the latch that the tailgate locks on to in the rear so it was tighter when the rear gate shut and problem solved!

there was a recall for the rear window mechanism for replacement due to the window could just fly open at anytime without hitting any button, I would check that out

both my 04's had the recall done & no noise at all & it's been 4yrs

do i have to prove to them that its the recall causing the problem? seeing as its not a safety issue, i can see them trying to get around this and charge me for it.

the service manager said that the recall was only on some liberty's and not all and its not listed for mine so they wont cover it.
