I'm going to be getting a rear bumper with tire carrier for the LJ soon. I'm going to get it in bare steel and paint it myself. I'm not just doing black though. I want to do it the same contrasting color I put on my diff covers. So I was thinking how cool it would look if I could do my rock sliders the same color too. The problem is they are already powdercoated black. Would it even be possible to paint over the powdercoat? I don't think I could sand all the way to the bare steel. I would just be taping them off and shooting them while still attached. Can't really take them off to paint, they are bolted in more places than you could imagine and silicone sealed to the body. Anybody know of a way to do it?

Just dull the finish down with steel wool so the new paint will adhere and you'll be good to go.

to get the best adhesion on a finish like that id get ahold of som etching acid which will cit aq good surface for you to paint on. then tape it all off good and hit it with a good epoxy primer than go where ever from there
