| Post subject: | 100,000 plus mile KJ update |
So bought mine September 21, 2004 with 121 miles on it, today it hit 100,000, well maybe not quite that since I have had "larger" tires on for the last 65000 miles and never reset it. But the Odometer says over 100,000 now! So someone do the calculations to see what I have for sure For the things I have had to do to keep it running regular maintenance items like: 21 oil/filter changes / tire rotations 6 new air filters 4 sets of spark plugs changed out the front/rear diffs and transfer case 3 times transmission fluid once drained and refilled the P.S. once Lower ball joints switched out to MOOGs by me Right side around 50000 left side at 81000 Rear U Joints at about 55,000 1- O2 sensor wire got caught 4 Wheeling and tore it, so had to replace Its also towed trailers to Boston twice, Orlando once and all over Ohio, pulls out logs for firewood every fall, so it gets used a lot AND THATS ALL Still have original battery, brakes, radiator, serpentine belt, window regulators etc. To me its doing a great job!Its only been in a local shop for alignments, all maintenance done in my garage, never been in a Dealership! (and never will) And even with 100,000 and the OME heavy Duty springs etc, it rides way better than the 08 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Prerunner I just drove 1200 miles to Orlando!! But I will not tell my Nephew that |

If you put larger tires wouldn't the odometer reading be less than the "actual" reading. For example, if you switched from 235/70 to 255/70: 1 mile = .96 mile 5,000 miles = 4816.61 miles 10,000 miles = 9633.22 miles So now you would have around 98,700 miles. |

Congratulations Tom! That is a huge accomplishment. I hope you don't ever have to go to a dealership... They really slow down a day (if you wait for your car) |

I think you have it half right. The bigger tires means less revolutions/mile so the odometer would show less than actual. If the odometer said 98,700 the actual would be 100,000 but if the odometer says 100,000 than he is over the mark! |

That's what I said...if the computer is not adjusted bigger tires will show a "less than actual" reading. Tom said his odometer is right at 100K. So I calculated it and he should be at 98,700 with his 255/70 tires. |

but his odometer is showing less than the actual...not more. so his actual should be over 100,000. aww who cares! he has another 100k at least in it anyway! |

I hope I have another 100,000 in it, my 95 Cherokee made it to 265,000 and just needed a transfer case in the time I owned it, so hopefully |

Quote: AND THATS ALL Still have original battery, brakes...
Original brakes? Really? I replaced the rear pads on my '06 a month ago at 28,000 and now I'm about to do the front pads *and* rotors at 30,000. The pads are gone and the rotors are crumbling, grooved, and warped. And I'm not what you'd call a "brake rider." People behind me probably think my brake lights don't work since they light up so little. |

Congrats, Tom! Glad to hear your KJ is doing so well. I find mine is a very reliable old gal, too, although it only has just under 67,000 kilometers (somewhere around 40k miles). I think maintenance is a huge part of it though, like you said. And not beating it like a rented mule... That is pretty amazing about the brakes lasting so long, though. I don't ride my brakes either, and the rear pads had to be replaced at about 15k miles IIRC. The fronts are still good. Go figger. |

Thats alot of driving! I just passed 31,600 miles the other day! Glad to see that 42rle has held up with *gasp* one fluid change! Youve not been easy on it hauling logs and trailers around either. By 100k I will have changed my fluid 3 times. Quick calculation: If the price of gas averaged around $2.75(just a crazy guess) per gallon and your Jeep averaged around 17mpg for 100k that means youve spent around $16,176 on gas alone. If you would of been driving a toyota corolla that got 30mpg you would of spent $9,166. Ahh, thats only $7,000 give or take. |

I have had brake pads sitting in the garage for over 6 months now, mold has started growing on them |

I wish in a way I only had 31,600 but I always put 30,000 / 40,000 a year on no matter what, my family says I have a gas a** always ready to go somewhere |

I agree. Driving a car just isnt as fun as driving a Jeep! Ohh, and my pads still look as good as new. |

Not sure, but I think my rear brake shoes/drums are factory (bought the jeep in 2004 w/60K miles). Changed the front pads/rotors when I bought it @ 60K miles. |

I'm at 82,000+ miles and still have my original front brakes - I drive a 5-speed to boot! Yes, I downshift a lot. Other than rear pads and rotors, I still have all factory supplied equipment (minus plugs and standard maintenance items of course |
