To make a really really long story short.......I have a 2002 liberty that I had the subframe replaced with one from an 05 libby. I just bought new 235/70/16 Kelly Safari a week before having the repairs done. This was the biggest tires size offered from the factory according to the inside of my glovebox. Now when I put it in reverse and crank the wheel I hear an awful rubbing. My front tires are obviously rubbing on the inner fender well. I brought this to the shops attention and they said different tire manufactures have different actual sizes than posted on the sidewall. Basically saying that it could be bigger than stated |

Do you have aftermarket rims? Different BS rims could be at fault. |

Sounds like a good excuse for a set of wheel spacers |

Why did you replace the cradle anyway? Have them put the right year cradle in,threaten them with a large lawsuit since it seams the '02 and the '05 cradles are not interchangeable. |

It's either the cradles are not the same or you have more damage somewhere. |

im almost willing to be that theres also damage elsewhere. an how hard did she hit this "curb"(AKA large boulder) an how fast did she hit it? Theres something fishy here. i think you need to talk to you girlfriend about this one some more. |

Are all 4 corners of the vehicle square? Did they check after the work was preformed? I run that same tire size on my Liberty (02 as well - no lift all stock) and have never had a rubbing issue in reverse at full lock [wheel turned either direction]. |

Mine came from the factory with 235/70/16...have had Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pirelli and now Cooper tires and none of them rubbed....only on the stabilizer bar. But that seems normal. Can it be that the wheels are a little more to the rear due to the stubby 05's nose?

alot of the time when that this happens the knuckle also bends.. even sometimes the strut.. chances are if it hit hard enough to bend the subframe more than the LCA needed replaced.. (worked in my dad's bodyshop for the past 8 years... ) |

man...I have a stock 03 setup and went a size larger on my tires and have NO rubbing and didn't need to trim or pound anything. they are a full half inch+ larger than stock and still have plenty of room, at full lock stuffed...there is something definitely wrong with yours. The guys above know way more about the cradle....but it does seem strange to put a new cradle on from a year that doesn't even match at all. I'd take it back and have them put in the right year for your vehicle. Stock factory sizes are too small a tire for our KJs and it most certainly shouldn't rub anywhere....going up a full inch in size should still be safe without rubbing and no lift. |

It is at the alignment shop as I type to recheck the specs .Thanks everybody! Its going to the jeep dealership tomorrow on the frame machine...At $100 to take measurements...Ouch! Is it possible the 05 libby and 02 libby had different alignment specs? If so, I wonder if they alinged it to 02 standars or 05?? How would they know? |

![]() ![]() The tires are actually rubbing in the front of the inner fender well. (It is not rubbing bad, but makes an awful noise) I fiqured there should at least be a little clearance, even at full lock? |

It seems everyone that I called says the 05 cradle is interchangable with the 02, including the dealerships. The alignment on the 02 and 05 are the same as I confirmed with the alignment specialists. The alignment is within specs, could there be damage that would cause my tires to rub if the wheels are aligned correctly? It is getting measured tommorrow at a shop I trust. Could my tires be rubbing due to the fact that they had to take down my steering gear?? Could the shop maybe have messed up my steering stops?? Thanks |
