Anyone find an ipod FM transmitter that actually works in a KJ? On other cars I have found it was a hit & miss proposition which unit would work in which car. Don't have one to test right now and would like to know it there is one that works. On my XJ I have a cheap stereo with the plug on the front and that is enough but I like the stereo in the KJ and have Sirius. I bought the $110 Jeep ipod cable and the ipod worked great but it knocked out the Uconnect and Sirius and it had to go. So is there any way to have it all? I have the 6 CD Jeep stereo, is there a way to just hook up a sound in plug on the rear?

actually there might be, there are generic adapters for CD changer inputs out there that allow this, course you would need to control the ipod by hand still, but they will pass the audio along to the head unit.

I have something similar for my nissan made with $10 worth of radioshack cables.

often most of those cables have 3 wires for ground, and left/right audio, get a male audio connect and splice em up together.

FM modulators are pretty asstastic.
Do you have the premium system?
Do you use the fader a lot?
Would you be willing to give up the control (all channels will still work)?
Would you be willing to spend about $250 to make it all work?

I just have the Itrip... no cable, just plugs directly into the Ipod and uses the Ipod's battery, even. It only works for about 4-5 hours on a full charge but, it does work well, on any FM radio, really. It's programmable to any FM station, too, so there's always an open frequency.

I have a Belkin(BLACK)

I liked it because it is more ridged and stands upright close to the center console

Also it is spaded for specific iPods so it cant just fall out, or disconnect...

Ran me about $90 easy to use

I have this:

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Group/ProductMenu.aspx?g=50900&search=usaspec+auxiliary&tp=1672

I believe this is what Sir Sam was referring to. This just simply plugs into the cd changer input on the back of the stereo. Now, this means that you cant use the external cd changer if you have one. But this gives you two sets of auxiliary inputs, and the sound quality is perfect. I'm not sure if it works with the stereo that has the in-dash changer though. you'll have to call in to find out for sure.

I used the wireless FM transmitters for a few years and eventually gave up trying to get decent sound out of them...

USA spec iPod adaptor.. Hardwires your iPod connection to the CD changer contoller input on any Chrysler vehicle. I have it and it works flawlessly. No more changing of channels since it uses a physical input rather than FM stations.

Works with 2002 - 2004 Liberty's then in 2004 - Mopar introduced their own version of the controller.

Crutchfield sells it for around $125.00 and I highly recommend it

Edit: it looks like a lot of us have it... Direct Link to Crutchfields page it runs 140.00 now but it's still worth it!

the other option would be a WIRED fm modulator. i think these are kind of hit and miss though. i got a really cheap one on amazon.... and it works like its really cheap. if you go this route, i wouldnt buy a cheap one.

Buy the transmitter if you want... The adaptor or the transmittor are your two choices.

I, too, have the USA-Spec and it works well. I don't have the one that allows you to control the iPod from the stereo, just the simple aux-in one. But like others have said, it doesn't work if you have a cd changer connected to the aux-in on the back of your stereo already.

I don't see the point in having a disk changer when you have iPod capabilities either. Kind of like keeping a cassette deck when far superior mediums are out there  New decks with iPod capabilities are cheaper than going through the iPod controller route and are far better than the FM transmitters. Come to think of it, most of the upper end transmitters are close to the same price as deck with iPod capabilities such as Aux. in.

When I changed out my stock deck, I just put it aside and am keeping it just in case I ever want to sell the libby down the road. Really only a 45 minute install.

But if he changed out the stock deck then he would probably loose his stock sat radio.

Plus there are some of us that hate aftermarket decks, they never look quite right, they are not as easy to control as the stock deck, and usually have wierd colors and lights that make me feel like I am back in highschool in a dark room with people doing X all around me.

Point being, he can ditch the stock changer, and get his ipod to work nicely with the stock deck, I would prefer that solution personally.

I guess we COULD just downgrade to a simpler stock radio that will allow the adapter to work. we could........ :?
