Post subject:  Rear Tow Hook Install Issues
Has anyone run across this:

I went to install the rear tow hook on my 2002 KJ and I am missing a screw hole. I have the back 2 holes under the gas tank skid and the holes for the J-clip, but no screw hole opposite the J-clip. The rear bumper has the notch cut out for the hook, though. Possibly just a manufacturing oversight? In both pictures, the driver's side is on the right, as if you were lying on your back looking up at it.

I am unsure what to do about it. Is it safe to use with only three screws holding it in place? If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

i didn't even know there was a fourth....its fine with just the 3 of them though.

Nothing from the 2002 KJ will match up to the directions printed for them... Wait till you install the front tow hooks. A wad of TP those instructions were for that exercise.

I'm not even going to lie to you; I only used two bolts on mine. I didn't get a third when I bought it, and never got around to replacing it. And I pulled 4 x 4 posts out of cemented holes in my yard with no problems. I'd think you would be perfectly fine with three.

I found that out when I put my skids on last summer. Front hooks weren't a problem, other than it is a tight fit to tighten the screws and nuts.

when i pulled my factory rear hook on my 02 there was only 3 bolts i think, i odnt remember, the one bolt in the back has that little clip with the threads in it that the bolt threads into

I just installed my hitch on a 03' and had to remove the factory hook which only had three bolts. You will be fine with three but of course a fourth wouldnt hurt.
