Hi, This has to do with the automatic entry key FOB. To gain added distance when locking or unlocking your doors, try holding the key FOB transmitter to your chin and press what ever button you need to. You can test this method by walking away from your vehicle and locking the doors over and over until they don't anymore due to distance(or you just burnt out the electric switch :P). When they do stop locking/unlocking walk a few more feet away and hold it to your chin and try. Make sure you actually touch your chin while doing it so it works (and people in the parking lot will think your going insane). I found this trick with my Bimmer it works great. Comes in hand sometimes if you are far enough from your car and wonder if you had locked it or not and don't want to walk back that far. With my KJ the lights flash and it honks so its easier to see if its working or not.. Not sure if anyone has brought this up before. If not,,,You know you will try it the next time your out... Later,MattyMac

Nope it works,no joke. No brain cancer, but could make your fillings fall out if done enough. You could always do it in the woods with only the trees watching you if you fell insecure sticking a key into chin.. If the key FOB works in the woods would anyone hear it?

I like to scare people with it... At work, I'll sit outside on the patio drinking my coffee (hint hint) and clik the button and have it honk (lock the doors) just as people are walking by... scares them, its funny, and I"m probably going to hell for it, but thats okay. haha Its too funny not to do :P

I do one better. If I'm parked such that the tailgate faces where people walk, I wait until somebody is walking by and remote-eject the flipper glass. Gets em every time!

As for the range increasing with height, I've seen that, too. I'm in a third-floor apartment, and even though I am line-of-sight, it's from 3 stories above, probably a hundred feet away or more, and I can hit the lock/unlock no problem. In a parking garage, even when I can see my car, I need to be within about 50feet to activate it.

I like the flipper glass routine as well, but here's MY favorite. In fact, I did it today. I was going to a lunch meeting, and kept getting hung up behind the parking lot stalkers. You know, the ones who block a lane in the parking lot following someone in order to get their spot. Well, after lunch I had about 10 minutes to kill. So I'd let a parking lot stalker get behind me, and follow me to a car. I play with my keys, and then cross over to another lane. Man I love it!

Thanks for the tip.

I was practically given some new FOBS from another member and was wondering if anyone knew where/how to program them for my vehicle.

I will definitely be extending their range once I program them. Thanks.

Another Fob Tip:

If ure fob stops working and u have replaced the battery or know the battery isn't the answer and it still doesn't work:

Take apart the fob. Remove the battery. Pull apart the rubber/button pad from the circuit board section. Take everything out of the plastic fob and wash the fob body and the rubber button pad thoroughly with soap and water. Wipe down the rubber pad but as u do so be sure to "burnish" (clean thoroughly) the black areas which make actual contact with the traces on the circuit board. These are carbon impregnated rubber pads and very prone to collecting grease and dirt thus detroying thier conductivity. Also clean the associated traces on the circuit board half. I use a paper tower or napkin as it is soft enough to not damage but rough enough to clean any residue off. You will actually see a little black area on the paper towel from dirt, corrosion, etc. Wipe off both sides of the battery as well. Reassemble and nine times out of 10 your remote will magically work again!
I've used this trick a whole bunch of times on mine and other peoples remotes that were thought to be dead. You'd be surprised how much crud these things pick up from fingers, pockets, etc. You'll actually see a whole colection of crud around the button openings when u dissasemble the fob.

HAHA, i had to read that twice to see what u were talking about, funny stuff right there.

I am afriad to open the glass or honk the horn b/c they may come back and key my jeep. I love messing with people, its the best. when im walking out to my jeep and have one of my hands in my pocket with my keys and the other carrying a bag and the rear window just pops open, people always look at me wondering how i did that.
