I'm sure some of you have seen this already but I think it needs to be shown. In 1997 Jeep displayed their Dakar concept vehicle but instead decided to release the Liberty.

yeah, You could almost say that all of us Honor the Dakar by modifying our KJs especially if you've done a SFA mod. I was telling Jerbacher that they could drop either the Liberty or Commander, modify the Wrangler Unlimited 4 door by totally removing the hard top option on it and introduce the Dakar designed after the 2008 Wrangler front but with more efficient KJ style interior.

I remembering seeing that years ago and I loved it ever since I saw it. I wished they come out with that.

the dakar concept is awesome! i guess jeep figured that if they released a more urbanized version of that, aka the liberty, it would sell better. that thing looks like its direct competition with landrover as well...would have been pretty sweet

A friend of mine with some good insider connections in the local Mopar dealers network told me the Dakar almost got built. When the Germans took over, the Dakar and alot of other projects were cancelled in so called "cost cutting moves". (read: take money from Chrysler and dump it on Mercedes)

That was the ZJ concept from '90 or so...before the ZJ came out.

That makes it pretty concept-y IMO:)

just like how ChryCo stuck pretty close to the Viper concept

Ever since I saw the Dakar and the Rescue I pretty much wanted a Jeep, if they came out I’d probably think about trading my Liberty. Those are some sweet vehicles.
