Post subject:  Idiot lights

Anyone have this problem, I searched and could not find it.

Last night while driving on a smooth level road suddenly the bell in the Jeep dinged one time then 3 dash lights came on.
1. ABS
2. ESP/BAS
3. Tracktion Control

I have restarted the Jeep, Drove over 30 Mph. I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Brake Fluid maybe?

Those were not warning lights, they were the "Take this Jeep and go offroading already!!!!" lights. Must have been a while since your last mud bath.

Jez, doesn't anybody read the owners mannual anymore?

Cant hurt to check the level.

So the lights are still on after shutting it down and restarting it?

Post subject:  Funny answers

Okay the answers are semi funny, but where I live the Jeep goes off road daily as many places have no road.

How about potential real answers? Oh and I did read the manual.
It says all three lights are work together?

If the lights are still on after restarting, check for bad ABS sesnors.. They tie into your Traction control inputs and are the most likely cause of this.

For no reason at all the sensor goes? How will I know that the sensor is bad.

My money's on a bad front hub bearing. How often is it submerged in water/how many miles are on the Jeep?

the sensor itself doesn't just GO OUT...the hub assembly wears out, and creates slop, and the sensor can no longer read the tone ring properly, so since the ABS/TCS systems won't operate properly with the sensor not reading right, it turns those systems off, and those lights come on.

Also could be a yanked wire from the hub assembly/rear speed sensors from wheeling...could be a lot of things. Best bet is to have a REAL code reader (any GOOD independent shop will have one, you don't have to go to the stealership) and it will tell you what's not getting a signal.

Fluids wouldn't cause any of the lights to come on. the parking brake light would come on if the fluid was low.

A tool like this can save you 10 times the cost by simply KNOWING what is wrong BEFORE you go and turn some mechanic loose on something with your vehicle.

I have a sacn tool that reads error codes and I will not let a mechanic touch my KJ or any car untill I know what is wrong and what is causing it. Might as well hand them a blank check.

Get one, get your error codes and educate yourself before the slaughter.

That's a really BIG DITTO...............

that scanner will NOT tell you exactly what's wrong...it only gives you a vague idea. it's nowhere near as complex and advanced as a good Genesis scanner that a shop will have

I know there are lots of shops that will do diagnostics of such things for free, at least in my area, and the ones who charge only charge 35-50 bucks. To tell you exactly what part to replace, that's cheap...and lots of em waive that fee if you have them do the work.

A good idea before you do ANYTHING else is jack up the front of your Jeep (doesn't matter where from) and wiggle both front wheels and see if there's any play in the wheel bearings

the scanner will tell him which sensor is throwing the error code and help him tell the shop what to do.

the Scangage will? I thought it was just a fancy code-puller

I don't believe the Scangauge is a diagnostic tool. You need something like THIS. I've been using it for some time now and love it! It's indispensable!

Post subject:  Scanners here and there

So many to choose from. I need one that will tell me which sensor is bad. I can't take it to the shop. There are no shops here to trust.
I must know the exact part because once I find out then I have to either fix it myself or order it. I'm on an island in the Caribbean.

I do have internet access and FedEx deliveries so I can get what I need if I need to get something. A diag tool is what I should have brought with me. So a recomendation would be most helpful. I saw something called CarMD.com anyone know if it will give me what I need? I really like the dash mounts but I can't leave it in the Jeep it will fry.

Clockspring?
Had mine replaced 3 times now. It shows the relation to the forward movement in relation
to what the vehicle is doing. I don't remember having three lights on though.
Just something else to look into.

clockspring could be the ESP light (I'm assuming it monitors steering wheel position in the 06+), but it wouldn't affect the ABS or the TCS

Post subject:  All 3 lights are affected

From what I have found out from the manual and the service manual all three functions are tied together so if one goes all three lights come on and you loose functionality to all 3 safety features.

All three functions are related to the braking of the wheels. So when the sensor goes all three functions go. So now the dashboard is annoying especially at night. Black electrica tape helps but now all 3 saftey features are non functional. They could have at least placed lights together instead of in 3 seperate locations.

I have been through the servcie manual several times and can't find a connection to the clock spring. But getting back to my original question
Would a code reader tell me which sensor is out of wack?
:?:

Post subject:  Dust not mud

Sorry almost missed this post....
The Jeep has 3,500 miles, most of the roads here are bumpy, rocky and dusty. Not much mudding. Also I have no options about going to dealers there are none here. We fix them ourselfs so I need a good code reader

If it was a hub assembly I would notice the loss in handling. No loss.
actually with the loss of ABS and the other features I've had to go back to controlling the Jeep manually. A little more skidding, more caution on the turns, and no more tail gates. Without the traction control I need to engage the 4x4 to get up the hill to my house when its wet or I slide backwards. Totally not cool.

Not necessarily...your hub assembly can be out of spec without having any visible play or anything you can feel while driving.

check all the connections on the wires leading to your hub assemblies, too. unplug 'em, hit 'em with electrical contact cleaner, and smear some new dielectric grease in there.

whatever it is, it's a simple problem with a simple solution, if there's only 3,500 miles on the rig.

Did you disconnect the battery? Give that a shot and see if they come back.
