Post subject:  Need help deciding on a floor jack

I need a new floor jack. But can't decide on which one. I want one that lifts at least 19" maximum. I'll list a couple that I'm looking at, but suggestions are welcomed.

Sears/craftsman 3-ton floor jack

Harbor frieght 3-ton floor jack

Home depot 3-ton floor jack - don't really like this one, that huge extension creeps me out.

Forgot to add this one:

harbor frieght tools low profile 3-ton

Advance Auto Parts has a SUV/Pick-up, 2 1/2 ton Pro-Lift floor jack that lifts to 21" for $56.00. Just bought one last month.

Make sure that it can lift your lifted rig high enough. I got some that at full extenion just touched the "frame" rails. So they were useless and got returned. Then you also have to account for the inches of droop your suspension is going to give.

I was thinking 19-20" would be good. I'm only lifted about 2". How much lift do you recommend. Don't really want to spend a lot on a floor jack. Thinking about $80-90.

I think the one i got from pep boys had a max of 19" and it just touched the rails. if you get a chance just go outside and measure from the ground the rail and the jacking point, then add like 6-8 or so inches. its raining now so i don't wanna go out and lay in the wet.

I picked mine up from Harbor Freight. It's been good for me.

I make it a general rule to not only avoid ANYTHING from Harbor Freight but to not work around anybody elses vehicle if ANYthing from harbor freight is involved with lifting or supporting it.

I would go with a Saers or even a Napa brand. Maybe more money, but I am fairly sure it will work.

I voted Sears.

I have 2 Sears floor jacks and one is about 20 years old and still works fine.

Also while you're at it get a set of heavy duty jackstands.

Seems like the consensus so far is Craftsman. I've been doing some research on this site and other and there is some mixed opinions on Craftsman jacks. Some people say its great and it lasts forever and others say its junk and broke the first or second time they used it. I'm not going to be buying a jack until the next week or two.

Those who voted Craftsman can you tell me which one you are using (model number)?

From the customer reviews on Sears website, it seems this one is the best:
Craftsman 3-ton

I've got a Michelin 2 1/2 ton "SUV" jack, no problems so far. 6-21" lift.

When I was researching I read good things about them, and also noticed a fair bit of negativity re Sears jacks.

I got it at Canadian Tire up here, but they don't seem to be listing it on their web site anymore, only the 2 ton and 3 ton. Can't seem to find a decent link to one for ya, sorry!

Nobody uses a Torin Jack? They look like a good jack.

Torin 20.1" 3ton @ Costco

Looks like this is the same one:

Home Depot, but cheaper.

I just noticed that one, too. $80 shipped. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If you don't like it, you can return it to a local Costco. (I have a Costco about 3 minutes away. Sears is a 15 minutes drive.)

Sears as well for me. I've got 2 of them... The first one didn't have any fluid in it (out of the box) so I had to return it. But of course at Sears, it's no questions asked as long as you have the receipt.

I also had a coupon for them so I got both of them for 50% off [or buy 1 get 1 free]
