Post subject:  Hi-Lift Mount - Beta Version

Some of you may have remember the thread about where the heck to mount a hi-lift on a KJ if you dont have a rock lizzy rear bumper. Been racking my brain and finally came up with the idea. Now the great thing about this mount is that it will allow you to mount the jack in several positions, to suit your needs. In the pics below the jack it mounted vertically on the outside of the stock roof rail, it can also be mounted vertiacally on on the inside of the rail, horizontally on the inside or outside of the rail, or horizontally across the roof of the KJ. This is good, because the base hook won't be sticking up in the air so its low profile, so you will still be able to fit into your home garage, or parking garages.

This version is made of cruddy material, but I have a local company cutting me 1/4" piece of stainless for testing and fitting purposes, but the final production version will be made from 1/4" ALUMINUM! I also have a company in Houston working on custom mounting hardware specifically for the KJ's odd shaped rails.

Now here is even more creamy goodness. I plan to make this universal fit, so it will work with most any vehicle with factory and NON-factory rails (such as the Rock Lizard rails). I have to get some more measurements, but it may also be able to be fit to the front hoop of an ARB. Also, i plan to have diffent attachments so it can hold a pair of skis, or up to 6 pairs of skis if 2 additional brackets are purchased.

Prelimanary numbers have the complete unit with all hardware selling for $30.

oh and there is no drilling or cutting involved!!!!!

How about attachments for a shovel? I just traded my rack for a hi-lift. I don't want to take out the other jacks (stock and bottle). Putting the hi-lift and shovel on top perpendicular between a couple of light bars would be ideal, I think.

oh yes, forgot to metion that. I'm looking into attachments for that as well, axe and shovel. It will be very versital as far as what can be held.

If someone wanted to mount the all 3, they will probably have to get 2 set-ups, as the added weight will put too much torsional stress on the rail and mouning hardware.

And incase anyone is wondering, all doors are still functional. It does not affect the doors from opening and closing as normal.

have you tested it off road yet? I bet it will rattle and hit the roof, if it is relying on the factory mounts. BE CAREFUL.

no i have not tested it off-road yet. Have not gotten the first draft of the mounting plate from the fabricator yet. But the custom bolts I'm having made will eliminate the rattle and roof contact. The actual setup will sit higher (more room between the jack and roof) than what is pictured above.

Woody, when i get the first design in and test it on mine, i may send it to you for some trial fitting and testing on the geko rack if that is okay with you.

Oh, and the factory mounts will support the setup perfectlly fine.

You know, the width between the roof rails is only 43" or so max. Lay that thing on it's side, use some large U-bolts and call it a day. Problem solved, $4 - patent pending.

you can certainly do that if you want to listen to rattling and banging over every bump and you want to take off and put on 4 nuts every time you need to take the jack off, not to mention you have to get up on top of both sides of the vehicle.

I like mine stored right under the rear seat. Stays out of the weather and easy to get to when needed. Cool idea though since it offers another idea for others to try.

I kinda just have mine currently laying across the back floor, seemed like a pain to get it in and out from under the rear seat. But would be good to keep it outta the weather.

One think I do like, is having the big red shown off on the side of the KJ. Kinda says "yup, you're right, its lifted...its bad stupid!!!!! and I need this big ole' jack just to change a tire."

Gives a new perspective on what I go through designing bumpers and having to take every possiblity into consideration with all the different models and all the different things people would like to see in a product. These things certainly don't happen overnight. An idea is easy. Making it work just like in your thoughts, not so much.
