| Post subject: | Pinion Index |
I just had my Pinion Index reset (computer adjusted the revolutions per mile) to correct the KJs speedo issues and realign the shift points of the transmission - $40 and 5 minutes at the dealer Today I found this fella's write up on his 231 t-case and speedo gear. Don't the KJ's use the same transfer case? Or is the 231J different? This could be a fix for those concerned with adjustments after a lift and wheel swap. |

I got mine done twice ( two different settings when we were trying to find the best setting), for FREE, I knew the guy... It pays to have a good relationship with your Stealership |

Hamilton-Fairfield Jeep. Went from 770 revs per mile to 681. Now the speedo is off slightly in the other direction with the MTRs. I'll check this week with my Toyo ATs. I think 700 - 705 would be the butter zone for 245/75s... Cmohr - I'm not sure that I'm getting the same results as you did. It does feel more responsive, but not overly dramatic. |

It was pretty cool here. The guys let me watch while they were doing it too. After reading this post, YOU could walk them through the process: Basically they: 1) Take their ScanGuage on steroids and plug it into the port. 2) Verify the jeep information (model and year) and access "KJ Body" from the onscreen menu 3) Select "Pinion Index" 4) If you have a tire size within their pre-programmed list (there were 8 options on this one) then select it. Otherwise choose "OTHER" and input the revolutions per mile (can be found at Tirerack.com look at the tire spec links) I post this because I'd like to know if the fancy Scan Guage II has any ability to change factory settings. I've heard that it can record some nice data, but I'm not sure about making changes to the computer. |

Tom, let me get this straight, are you saying that, with a ScanGauge II, we can do this ourselves? |
