alright guys... i have a family problem right now, and will not be able to put on my skinks for a week atleast, and they have quite a lot of surface rust. is it okay to go a couple more weeks, even a month without having them line-xed... will they be okay?

i still have one to drill out and just don't have the time or the persons.

Sorry to hear your facing some challenges.

I think they will be fine, it's only a couple weeks, and I'm guessing it's not like they are sitting next to the ocean or anything like that. Surface rust really isn't a big deal, sandblasting, whire wheel, flap wheel, 3m stripper wheels, sandpaper, naval jelly, all that kind of stuff will knock surface rust right off in a jiffy. Well, maybe not the sand paper, that might take a bit of work.

I'd only worry if the rust is starting to pit the metal, but heck, they are armor anyway, it's not like you are chrome plating the suckers. They will eventually be rusted peices of metal anyway.

One thing you could do is spray them down with wd-40 or something similar and wrap them in plastic. That might help slow down the rusting process, though you would hten have to thoroughly clean the oil off before you paint them, otherwise you'll have bigger problems.

They will be fine. Thats thick metal, not thin sheet metal so they could rust for awhile and be just fine.

Just dont let it go on for years.

ya they will be fine, but if you can do spray them w/ wd40 itll make it easier to clean them up when you go to install them

or you could get some rust converter and primer coat them in that and they are good for 12 months

Yes, and the WD40 will make the paint/coating stick EXTREMELY WELL  (Not really)

first off sorry to hear about family problems. you will be fine. a little surface rust wont hurt the line X coating they prime them before hand. but i would reccomend against getting them line Xed or bedlined at all. the stuff just rips off the first time they hit anything. I had mine line Xed on my old bronco and the stuff just tore off the first time i used them to slide over something while off roading. Just paint them and you will be good for all your off roading excursions and just re spray them after use. just my opinion.

Before you apply any Top Coat I would suggest a coating of POR 15 this Rust Primer will reacte with existing rust and when finished will be bullet proof. They sell a kit for $25.00 that should be just enough to coat your sliders. It's their starter kit. But should do the job desired.
