Winches

Just thinking about getting a winch, is there any way i can mount it inside my stock 02 sport bumper, and has any one had any problems with the t-max winches like the ones shown here http://www.rocky-road.com/kjtmax.html ???

uh oh......did you get a look at the infinity kj??? yeah sounds a legite winch....because of the bulk and shape itd be interesting to see if you could fit it within the bumper, i dont know much about winches but sounds like what you need

if you are going to try to hide it in the bumper, you may want to look at something like the m6000spd from warn. since it is meant to be portable (mounts to a tray for use with a class 3 hitch) it is smaller than the regular sized warns. it can be removed from the tray and mounted to whatever plate system you come up with.

The KJ is much too heavy for a 6000 lb. winch. You'll burn the motor out very fast. Get at least an 8k lb. winch, if not a 9k.

You could get by with a 6000lbs winch but you would have to use a pulley block (snatch block) to help it out pulling a Liberty loaded with gear. I've used a 3000lbs ATV winch to pull out jeep wranglers, you just have to take your time and use the pulleys. The pulling strength of the winch really comes down to how long you want it to take to pull you out and how long setup will take. A 6000 pound winch with two snatch blocks will pull 15000 lbs. BUT with 50 feet of cable, your reach will only be about 12 feet. Could take a while to pull you out of a big hole, where as a Warn 9500 HS out TI would pull you 100 feet in about 7 mins. A small winch pulling you 12 feet at a time and then setting back up would take 20 or 25 mins to pull you 100 feet.

ALSO look at the new Warn 9.0Rc, Thats awesome power in a small pack, not sure but you might be able to fab up something to mount it under the bumper.

The 4x4 shop near me had some Tmax winches the other day, and they spoke very highly of them. They are made in Australia aparently and they said they just didn't have as good of a warranty as the warn (1yr vs 2yr) but other than that a great winch for the price.

I have had a TMax 9000 winch on my truck for over a year and it has worked flawless. Rating and line speed are identical to Warn 9000.

I have used it in several stucks and have even done tree removals with it.

na...i have been pulling everything from the libby to lifted cherokees and wranglers in all conditions (except mud, not much of that in colorado and i hate the cleanup anyway) for a couple years now. the winch started life on the front of my wrangler and i just put it back on the receiver hitch mount when i got the libby. the line length is limited at 50' from warn because of the smaller drum so i went to 1/4" synthetic rope and am now running 100' and the rope is the same strength as the 5/16" cable that came on the winch (and 10 times easier to deal with). on a snow run last year i did full pulls in up to 3" deep snow all day and never had a problem. the winch barely even heated up.

and as mentioned earlier, throw in a snatch block and you are good to about 11,000-12,000 pounds
