Well, my Check Engine light on my 2004 6-cyl had been on for a little while, and since we are getting ready to go on vacation next week, I decided to pop in to the local Adavnce Auto Parts store and let them check the computer for the codes.
I ended up getting a full house! 137,138,157,335, and 339.
So I looked 'em up (on here, of course!), so I know it is Bank 1, Sensor 2, and Bank 2, Sensor 2, as well as the Crankshaft Position Sensor.
The crankshaft sensor has not really been acting up in general, but if we get a very heavy rain and the vehicle is not driven during that day, it gives us fits the next time we go to start it. It has only done it twice, but it is a pain.
So anyway...I'm scheduled for a dealer visit tomorrow to have these things remedied, and I was told about 2.5 hours on labor, or around $200, but he did not state that they had the parts (he said they should, and if not, could drive to a nearby dealership to get them), and so he did not give me a cost on those parts.
So, I checked it out on a Mopar parts web site, and it looked to me like the O2 sensors from there were around $50-ish bucks, and the crankshaft sensor was mid $20's. Now since I lack any of the skills necessary to replace these items (except for possibly the crankshaft sensor), I'm sort of at their mercy.
However, I was wondering if any of you have had any experiences with having any of these items replaced at a dealership and how much did it cost you?
I just think if I get there and they say those sensors are like $100+ each, I may have to tell them to suck it, and leave. Or, at the very least, have them only replace the upstream sensor for now (which I suspect is Bank 1, and is the more important of the 2 to get changed).
Anyway...I guess I'm more or less just rambling and lamenting the situation, but I wondered if any of you have ever been in a similar boat.
Thanks! ...and I'm glad to be here!!
