I have a 2002 4X4 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7 and Auto trans. I have the factory hitch and wiring. My question is has anyone pulled any camper similar to a 23 areolight this is a aluminum low profile camper that weighs around 3500 lbs. I know this isnt optimum but i would like to know if anyone has any expereince pulling anything close andhow did it pull Thanks Dave |

I've pulled my 19', 2000 lb camp trailer with my Liberty (5 speed maunal, 3.7L) and had no problems whatsoever. The tow limit with a manual is 3500lbs, 5000 with an auto, you should be fine. Hopefully you have electric trailer brakes to help stop. Just take it easy, drive carefully. |

I have pulled a enclosed trailer (approx weight 3,000 lbs.) The Liberty did pretty good. The trailer did tug the Jeep around a little, but it wasn't too bad if you kept the speed down. After my trip (around 200 miles round trip) I had to change the transmission fluid. It smelled a little cooked as did the brakes. |

We just added a trailer towing package to our jeep, to pull our boat which is around 2500LBS. We are going to add a heavy duty Trans cooler prior to next summer boating season. We have pulled the boat with an 89 Z24 which is lighter than the jeep. So you definetly knew the boat was back there I expect the Jeep to do much better than the Z. |

Dave, I pull an 05' Keystone Zeppelin TT. You won't have any problems with your jeep pulling your unit. My TT weight is about 3300lbs. loaded. I've got an Equal-izer w/d set up and a Prodigy brake controller. Tows like a dream and tracks true behind the Jeep. Even when 18 wheelers pass by. Tow safely... |

Hey AmeicanMetal what length is your Zepplin and do you use one or two sway bars? Sleeve what is the length of your enclosed trailer, I am really concerned about the wind pushing the jeep around with the trailer on the back. Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. Dave |

Dave, The Zeppelin is 18-19 ft. from hitch ball to rear bumper. It weighs 3300 lbs. with all my accessories. Tongue weight is about 460 lbs. The Equal-i-zer Weight distributed hitch not only weight distributes but has built in friction sway control. Technically on either side of it which makes it 2 built in sway control devices. Check out their site... www.equalizerhitch.com The TT has 10" electric drum brakes so I hooked up a Prodigy Brake Controller. If your a little wiring savy you can do it yourself or just take it to a professional to install. Jeep proclaims with the 3.7L , Auto. Trans and their tow package you can tow a maximum trailer length of 25' and 5,000 lbs. properly equiped. Personally I wouldn't go to those maximun limits b/c it leaves no margin for error. The jeep also has a short wheel base compared to a pickup truck. Which is where the sway problem can be that... a problem. The trailer length being too long for the wheel base of the tow vehicle. It's like the tail wagging the dog instead of the other way around. At 23' and 3500 lbs. with weight distribution and a brake controller you should be fine. My Jeep tows my set up like it isn't even there. I'm not joking about that statement. The Jeep pulls, tows and stops just fine the way I have my system arranged. Of coarse I keep it at a steady 60 mph, give myself extra stopping room, proper tire pres. and the such. Lord knows I've seem guys blow by me at 80, that's totally nutz. So tow safe. Hope this helped. Joe |

I tow a 20 foot shawdow cruiser travel trailer with no problem. It wieghs about 4000lbs. I use one swaybar and have no problems. My CRD runs about 1800 RPM's at 65 mph and gets about 16-18mpg pulling it. (bragging) I do have trailer brakes and I keep everything leveled up. I was able to use a extended hitch ball mount (to stick out past the spare tire) and level the trailer up by using a two inch rise. You should be able to set it up. Be sure to work on setup because 23 feet is about the longest trailer you can pull with a short vehicle and could be extremly hazardous if not setup right. Wes |

My trailer is 6'x16' w/ brakes but no load leveling function. (Just have to be careful when you pack the trailer) I manage on I-94 @ 65 between Detroit and Jackson fairly well. The winds weren't really a problem, it was more the ruts in the ashpalt that move the trailer around a tiny bit. Nothing scary you just have to pay attention is all. I also tow my boat. An 18' sail boat (usually ~150 pound tounge weight) without any problems. Made the trip from Detroit to Chicago a couple of times without any problems @ 65 over the summer. The Jeep is really impressive |
