Post subject:  Help steeing rack

well today i heard a small popping noise from the front end so i went to lift it up and the inner boot on the steering rack has something rattling on the inside of it. when i put the front passenger tire up in the air I can move the tire a good 2-3 inches both ways and feel something in that boot has snapped. I was wondering if i could just order that part seperate or will i have to replace the whole steering rack?

Yikes! The only thing inside that boot is an inner tie rod, so maybe its something further in the steering rack or you must have a damaged tie rod. That sounds very dangerous I would not drive until I took that boot off and found out what it was.
You can order seperate inner tie rods, I ordered my MOOGs awhile ago. I'm gonna get the outers and rack bushings and replace pretty much all my steering components minus that rack sometime this summer. You can do it without taking out the front diff, no manual will say it though.

You can replace just the mount without doing the whole rack.

well i am begining to think it was a factory defect. the libby handles so much differntly now that it is attached properly. it used to sway all over before when i would hit a bump even before the rack broke. now it drives straight as can be over all the road defects. its to bad i didnt notice it till i was out of warrenty. needless to say its been a expencive last few weeks. the clock spring also went out this week, last week i had a window regulator fail, week before that my A/C went out and ontop of that i need new brakes in all 4 corners again.
