Post subject:  My 1,950 Mile Trip

Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and back to Florida. We drove the wife's Kia instead of the Liberty due to gas consumption. A couple of interesting observations. In at least my part of FL there are very few 4X4 Liberties. The further north I went the more I saw. In Ohio and PA they were by far the majority. I'm sure its because of snow. Out of the TONS of KJ's that I saw none of them were modified! It really made me wish I had driven my Liberty to show all of them what they should look like!!

See he comes up here and does't even let us know. Your'e just as bad as I was when I came to FL. Too many places to go and not enough time!

As far as spotting lifted KJs its tough to find them for sure! I had mine lifted for about a year before I ever put my eyes on another one, AND that was after we lifted jerbachers in my garage and backed it outside

Yeah ,the 2wd is the norm for the south
do ya'll have the 5 to 1 2wd JK's to 4wd JK's like we do in LA?
and just trying to find another 4wd KJ is hard enough let a lone another lifted KJ
how ever I have seen 1 other lifted ,I know the guy, I know of at least 1 that is getting lifted and 1 maybe
I also know of 1 that claims to be lifted but he also mentioned wheeling in south LA and I have never seen him out on the trails
so who knows

Up here in Jeepville ( Toledo) 99 out of 100 are 4WDs, there are a ton of them and most have never even been locked into 4WD from the looks of them.

I'm driving my KJ to Ohio on 29 July and staying until 16 August. I figured at 17mpg on the highway, it will cost roughly $370 in gas one way at an average of $4.19/gallon. $740 round trip? Wow!

Round trip flight to Columbus from Denver is $451, not including extra baggage fees and boarding my cat for nearly 3 weeks (taking my cat with me to Ohio when I drive).

I never saw very many KJ's when I was in Ohio in 2005 and 2006. I guess I am tainted though. I see a KJ about every mile here in Colorado.

Dealers here in Colorado won't order any 2wd Jeeps, PERIOD! No use for them here and won't sell. People buy Jeeps for a reason here in Colorado and that is the 4x4 capability. Even though we still have a lot that will never see dirt roads, people think they need a 4x4 during the winter. Which is never really that bad on the paved roads.

I went to a family reunion in Akron. Breezed right by Kent! But I must say I have a lot of fond memories of Kent, Ravenna and Brady Lake! Every day I was gone (7) I was on the road and a different motel each night. What a pain! My KJ was crying when I got back, she was SO happy to see me again! Ten minutes after I got home her and I headed out for coffee. She purred!!!!

Yeah I was wondering where you went to. Someone said you didn't live in Kent anymore. Your still pretty close though.

Wish you still lived around these parts Fulltimer. Also, I would go crazy now being away from my libby for more then 1 day.

It was hard, especially when driving through the mountains of WV, NC etc and seeing trails! The wife's Kia got 32 MPG so I guess it was a good decision. The move probably saved me some jail time. I was keeping bad company back in those days. Busting heads was kind of frowned on.

I TOTALLY understand, Terry. Once a month I drive about an hour North of Asheville, NC to go visit my elderly parents and because of gas prices I have been forced to take my '07 Jetta (29-33MPG highway). When I get up there, I almost cry everytime I pass a lifted vehicle.

But this month I have a valid reason where I need to take the KJ up... :D

I really don't understand this having another car thing, Libertys my only driver ( well except for the state vehicle which is for work only) but I could never go off and leave mine behind  My wife was teaching 245 miles away ,so it made the trip every weekend, parents live 250 miles away and go there two times a month. (100 miles from my wife if I am down there)

I could never drive something I don't like just to save a few bucks  But thats just the Hillbilly Redneck in me I guess

Oh, I don't dislike my Jetta at all -- It is very satisfying to be cruising the highway at 90MPH and still getting 30MPG. :D

I once did Clarkston (east of Atlanta) to Savannah in 3 hours (254 miles) door-to-door in it!!!

They are two different driving experiences. I like my KJ and I like my Jetta.

But my Jetta can't take much more off-road than a gravel driveway.

I'm with you on that. I'm not even considering another vehicle or anything because of the gas prices. All I want to do is drive the kj. The hubby brought up getting a scooter last night. Nope. Not for me.

Well, at least Aaron will have room in the back of one of the Astros for it.

I know the feeling too. Last week I did about 2200 miles on vacation (KY, SC, FL, OH and back to KY). Took the wifes Grand Prix that gets 30 mpg. Would have killed to take the KJ. Everytime I saw another KJ, I wished I was driving mine. Oh well....now I don't feel so bad not taking mine knowing that other members are doing the same thing!

Must have been nice to get out on the road and see the beautiful country side. Any nice pit stop photos?

The kid's Civic isn't going to college, so that could be my daily driver if I didn't enjoy driving the KJ so much. The KJ will do the take-to-college pilgrimage though, probably a 2500 mile trip. 150 gallons is what, $700?

The only thing I saw that was interesting was this Grand Cherokee with hood louvers.
