Post subject:  Good Mechanics in Norther VA

I have buddy who just moved to Northern VA, (Alexandria or Reston?). Unfortunately his 02 KJ has been having a mysterious coolant leak (he has had this looked at several times down here in GA). Now that he is in VA the stealership finally solves the mystery and informs him he has a $4300 repair. Apparently his head gasket is leaking, and they don't know if it is just the ring or the whole gasket ($1200 in labor just to look). He is not too keen on being hosed by dealer prices and was wondering if there in anyone in the his area that is reputable. Any advice would be appreciated, and I will also tell him to quit being a ninny and say hi to the board.

Thanks

P.S.

If this is wrong place to ask this question, please drag me out back and have me flogged, then give me your advice

I'm not sure of any up there, try posting in the midatlantic section so local members will have a better chance of seeing the post.

also try going on the nova jeepers site (northern virgina). its a pretty big group, so i'm sure you'll get some good responses there. http://www.novajeepers.com/

If he can make it there. http://www.adrenalineoffroad.com/ certified Chyrsler mechanics as well as offroaders, and good guys. I haven't lived in VA long enough to have a closer one.

Have him make a post on www.novajeepers.com He'll get a good answer as well as join a good forum.

Tell your buddy to check out Fair Oaks Chrysler Jeep if he can't find a good non-Chrysler mechanic. They charge $97/hr but some of their mechanics are off-roaders and they rarely question my warranty requests despite rampant modifications. They even compliment my modifications and point them out to customers. :)

Manassas Chrysler Jeep seams to have the cheapest parts department but I've never had service performed by them.
Farrish Jeep has shady service policies and refuses to perform warranty work on modified vehicles.
