I would think you could just tape it off and spray some self-etching primer and paint and clear. If you ask me it is just not worth it. I just debadged mine.

sandblast and plastic primer/paint? That's my plan, if I ever get around to 'em.

I have debagged the front and love the look. However I have owrdered and gotten new badges and what not for the tailgate. I also got Sport/Grey side mouldings and plan to paint them black. Just curious about how to get paint to stick to the chroming on the JEEP, 4x4 and what not

Sand off the plastic clear coat. Then primer. Then paint. Then clear coat.

That should last longer than the factory stuff.

is there a chemicla way to get the clear coat off? those letters are pretty tight in the cracks and not sure i can get all the clear off. I can always re-apply the 3m tape, is there a chemical strip I can use that wont melt the plastic under the chroming?

Try oven cleaner. Be prepared to put new double-sided tape on the back, though.

Assuming you can get the emblems off in one piece.

What about MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)? In a previous life I worked in structural steel fabrication and we used that stuff to strip paint off of all kinds of stuff. Are the badges metal? It's pretty powerful stuff. We used to paint our hard hats about once a month and one quick (I'm talking straight in and out of the barrel) dip took all the paint right off. It stripped it right down to the plastic. You can get it at home improvement or hardware stores. I think if you don't leave it in contact for too long it should work on most anything. If they are steel, you could probably soak them in it and not hurt anything. I would be careful if they are aluminum too.

They're plastic. MEK (I use it too. Deadly stuff, really) would melt the plastic if left on it for very long. I didn't know you could get it that easily though. That's kinda scary.

Yea, unless you could do a quick dip and get it out of the all the crevices it would probably melt the plastic.

All the badges are new, un stuck. so all I have to do is get the chrome platinf either off os etched some how so primer and paint will hold.

Hmm. I see no argument AGAINST oven cleaner.
