I don't understand why prople always blur out the plate in a picture when your plate is seen by houndreds of people every day. If someone wanted to steal your identity by going through the DMV then I think they would be S.O.L. Have you been to or called a DMV, it takes 2 hours to just renew your tags and you need 3 peices of mail and your original birth certificate, imagine how long it would take to steal someone SSN through there. Just a rant and a general question. |

It's for their own personal piece of mind I would think. Picutres can be snagged and who knows who will see it. Someone with a hair up their butt could see the picture on the internet and could cause some damage. People aren;t going to just take a liscense plate number down while they are out driving, butt these punks WILL get on the Net and fart around with someone just becasue they CAN. I was shocked to see MY picutres on Cardomain. |

same here.. u can see my plate when im driving but you dont know who i am.. but online.. i post with a username.. else i would of just registered w/my full name.. so when i take pics i blur my plate and i put a watermark in the image and also a visable one.. you would be surprised of how many images i have made or taken over the years that i find on other peoples websites w/o my permission.. stating that they took this picture or they created this logo/image..etc.. its said to say but honestly you cannot trust anyone online these days... believe me.. been there done that.. |

I wouldnt be too overly paranoid about it something like that. I wouldnt readily post personal information about myself on websites but something like that I would think is small (license plate number). Someones SS# or personal information is as easy as a "click away" if the person has the right knowledge and the time/ambition to search. I mean if you think about it if someone grabbed a piece of mail out of your mailbox they could do some serious damage and you dont have that locked down. Same as your car (or KJ) sitting in your driveway, if they wanted the info bad enough they will find a way to get it. |

As far as seeing a picture of my Jeep somewhere I would think that was cool. I guess I am not to worried about a peice of information that is displayed every day all day long. We take our Jeeps to car shows for people to look at and some of those people may just have a camera and someone that has a camera might take some pictures of some jeeps at a car show. I don't see anyone make these people sign a wavier stateing that the picture is copywrited or can not be shown without the written permission of the owner of the vehicle. Some people would probably pose in the pic with there Jeep, and where is the most common place to pose, at the front, almost all states require front plates. So if you show up on the web posed in front of your Jeep with the plate showing are you going to contact that person and sue them for violation of privacy. I know that people take pics at all the trail rides that we go to and we host our pictures for all to see without the fear that someone is going to use this public information against us. I would like to see more thoughts on this. Not as an insult towards anyone but just there thought. There is no right or wrong it is the preferance of the person hosting the pic. |
